Dhanagiri Home Stay

I hesitate to write my third review. I fear that we may be turned away by a full booking the next time we want to come here.This is always our final destination in Kerala. We have been here for 7 days and it is a paradise on earth. It is in the midst of a coffee and pepper plantation which side crops of turmeric and ginger. The cook Sudha is a five star Kerala cook and has been here for over a decade. If we got food like this all the time, we would be vegetarian. We have a whole cottage to ourselves with a king size bed. The balcony overlooks the Western Ghats. A/C to necessary at all, but it can be cool early morning or late evening, so bring a sweater. Birds abound and the huge malabar squirrels check out the jackfruits to see if they are ready to eat. We came here with a driver and a car hired through Indian Panorama and there are places to visit in the area like the Eddakal caves, the honey museum, the tea museum, the Pookode lake, and my driver even found me a toddy shop. The are many places to get Ayurvedic massages In addition it is the spice capital of the world. Go to the honey museum to get your spices. The entire staff has become like family to us. You just get into a different mental framework far from the madding's crowd's ignoble strife. If you are the restless type and always want to be on the go, this is not the place for you. Unfortunately the area is going the way Goa has become . Developers rush to unspoilt areas only to spoil them in the process. Anand the owner and his father Murali, who manages the farm, are keeping its timeless tradition . There are many 5 star Ayurvedic resorts mushrooming about the place and you can stay there and get impeccable English speakers and get a hit on your wallet. I would rather stay here and pay even if those 5 star places offered me a week for free.. Folks this is REAL!
