Royal Desert Camp

Stayed here for the Camel Fair. We are independent travelers, not with a group tour. We are flexible in our travels and have stayed in 5 star hotels but have also backpacked in the woods with a tent, so we were expecting something halfway in between those two accommodations. We were pleasantly surprised at the flush toilets, shower, sink, and air conditioner in our room. Yes, the beds were hard, but I figured out that if you lay on the quilt provided and cover up with the remainder of the quilt, that provided enough padding on top of the hard mattress. This is a holy city and they don't serve any meat at all, so be prepared to go all vegetarian while you are here. All meals with coffee and tea were provided with the tent/hotel, but if you want water with your meal, they charge you for that. The camel cart ride was something I'll never forget, but you probably don't want to do it in the pouring rain-there is no protection on a camel cart. We saw the rain coming and we summoned our driver to take us home, which he did. Wifi only works at the checkin station. The baggage handlers and housekeeping staff were very attentive. Since there were mostly groups there, the tables were set up in long rows. They also had entertainment at night with local music/dance groups. If you want a very unique experience you will never forget, I would suggest this tent/hotel complex.
