This family owned and run guesthouse is full of surprises..  The accommodations are terrific... not really luxurious, but REALLY comfortable.  The inn has a small cafe with excellent lunch fare and fabulous desserts.  Next door is a very cool historic building with a story about it's early years right in the walls.  The food again was really terrific and in a very unsuspecting place.   Can't go wrong.

It was a delightful stay at the south rock apartment.  The cottage was spotlessly clean, cozy, bright with wonderful views of the mountain and water.  It felt like a home away from home.  Kitchen and bathroom are of nice sizes and well equipped with a dishwasher and a washing machine for laundry.  Both bedrooms have a wash basin.  The bedroom curtains worked very well to block out summer light at night.

The winged Brakin sculpture is literally in the backyard.  The Settlement Center Restaurant (highly recommend) is right next door.  We had a pleasant evening stroll by the water.  Thank you, Egils Guesthouse, for the beautiful memories associated with the cottage and Borgarnes.

We stayed for a couple of nights while touring Snaefellsness and areas north of Borgarnes. It was perfect location. Haffi was great. (All Iceland hotels are overpriced though.) One room had 2 beds, and a pullout double sofa. The other room had 2 beds. There is a bit of a walk up some stairs and a ramp with all your luggage

We had a lovely stay in the green cottage.   The views were breathtaking, good food was steps away, and Helga was most accommodating.   There is a noce common area to sit and talk.  Definitely a warm place to rest your head after a long day of travel.

We were 5 adults and got the Rock Apartment who was a separate building 10 meters from Egil’s Guesthouse. The apartment had everything we needed for our stay, including a washing machine.
The apartment is located central in Borgarnes and easy parking.

I stayed here for 2 nights because I wanted to see the National Park so its location was very convenient.  

They provided use of a microwave and refrigerator and throwaway utensils. They had tea and coffee in the room with a hot pot for boiling water. There were multiple outlets. Nice ambience around the property. I would take advantage of The Settlement Museum because it gives a good history of the area and the founder.   Nice area in Borgarnes and the area surrounding the guesthouse.

Low water pressure in the shower. So it felt like I was taking a shower for a long time It also took a long time to get hot water in the shower. This was the first time that I stayed 2 nights in a guesthouse so I didn’t know that they don’t replenish towels everyday. The twin bed was on the narrow end but it was placed against the wall so I did not fall over.

For our last night in Iceland we decided to stay in Egils apartement (#1) in Borgarnes. It is a small, pleasant town with a nice swimming pool. The apartment was situated on a quiet street in the centre. It was easy to find, and check in and out was convenient with the instructions we’d received. The parking was cross the street. Don’t judge the accommodation according the exterior shabby look; inside we found a nice, cozy and clean place to spend the night. We had a nice view of the snowy mountains and a quiet part of town. The studio is small but it was OK for 3 people. There were 2 comfy beds and sofa bed, dining table, large dresser, and small TV. The kitchenette was well equipped for basic cooking. There was also refrigerator, microwave, el. stovetop, el. kettle and coffee maker, though it would be nice to have some tea bags and better coffee (there was instant coffee) available. A good size bathroom had the washing machine and shower. The bathroom sink was tiny and not easy to use without splashing water on the floor. We had a great rest at Egils before our long flight home. Also, Borgarnes was a good choice - it is a nice town with a good food options (restaurants, supermarket, bakery), pleasant to walk around and within reasonable driving distance to Snaefelness, Reykjavik and Krauma spa. We certainly recommend this apartment.

Egils Guesthouse is in an old house in the old part of Borgarnes near the end of the peninsular. Good location for exploring the small town. The room was quite small but adequate for 1 night. No shared kitchen but could use the microwave & fridge used by the café (café only open at weekends). The manager was friendly and helpful.

We didnt see anyone who runs or owns the guest house. We let ourselves in and the keys and invoice were there for us. The room was opposite the main door however had own private bathroom. The issue was it was noisy with people coming and going which did disturb my sleep. The room itself was small but clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was huge and good shower. Overall the stay was Ok and good location for our onward journey of the west coast.

We stayed here several months ago, but I have had to strengthen myself to write this, as it was such a terrible night. I am trained in fire safety, as a hospital doctor who has to evacuate people (patients, visitors, staff etc) in the event of a hospital fire. So, when I get to a room, I always check how we would escape in a fire. It was impossible from this room.  Very narrow steep stairs and the window was too small to get out of easily as impossible to get out feet first. The place to land was meant to be the roof below. But that roof was to one side and may also have been alight in a fire! There was no way to get your feet out of the window first in a fire, so a fire would have meant certain death.
We had major problems about accessing the place. The door was locked and we walked al the wat around the building trying to work out how to get in. We had been sent the access code at 14.30 that day, but we had had no internet access all that time since, so we had the added cost of a ‘phone call and wasted time, telephoning to ask how to get in!
We had a tiny room up very narrow steep winding stairs, that were hard to carry cases up to. The room we had paid Hotels.com for was not as we expected. It is tiny – only the size of the beds really, with nowhere to put cases or get around the room. It had tiny twin beds and no en-suite, so we had to share a bathroom. The sockets were impossible to find. We needed them to charge up lap-top computer, camera batteries, mobile ‘phones etc. I eventually found a total of 2 sockets. Hidden behind a curtain and one was 6” from a tap in the corner basin! Great safety!
We had to charge our kit up on the bed, so nowhere to sit. Tiny path of 6“ between our cases and end of bed to both exit via door and window (in case of fire). There was a file with suggested walks around Borgagnes, but we found it did not give enough information for us to follow, the next morning when we tried to follow the walks, it was impossible.
We clearly had a similar experience to the other 1* reviewer and I would suggest that you avoid staying at this place unless you want to risk your life. We are surprised that Icelandic laws allow this type of place to be rented out- it would not be allowed in the UK and we do know about health and safety laws. I am very surprised that TripAdvisor have given it a Certificate of Excellence and will not trust them again.
