We were in the Palatinate for a weekend. When we booked we were told that we would not be staying directly in the Villa, but in the guest house in the centre of the village. There the two double rooms we had booked with our friends would share a bathroom. Besides the term Villa is also really easily exaggerated for a very normal winery. When we arrived there we were somewhat horrified: in the guest house there are three more double rooms, which are also a bathroom. The bathroom we used with our friends is almost at the top of the stairs and has come in years as well as the whole piece of the house.

The price-performance ratio does not fit

I was a business traveler in April 2020, so during the Corona crisis, I stayed for a night in the Villa Hochdörffer winery. The house and the parish reminded me of the Italian construction in Tuscany. I was very warmly received, the service was very good despite limited possibilities. The rooms have all the individual names of well-known grape varieties. My room in the main house was very clean and spacious. The facility is very comfortable but meets the very latest standard and I immediately felt very comfortable. The kitchen had unfortunately closed because of the Corona crisis, but I could try some of the fine wines and, of course, I can take it with me.

Tuscany feeling in the palms

We were staying in the villa for a wedding. We had two small children (1 and 2) and got a three-bedroom (which we only realized when we paid for it, as the bride had organized the rooms). The third bed was a folding bed, ultimately a baby bed would have been better in length. The room was relatively spacious. The premises were well maintained and beautiful and the vineyards around were a dreamlike setting. The equipment and service were almost inexpensive, however. There was no water boiler (even on demand - hot water for the baby bottle was not very demanding), nor was a baby bed available - and this is part of the hotel's price tag for my taste in every class - even in a bookstore. There is a special restaurant, but I can't even get a special price for this one.

Overpriced

The five double rooms were then divided into two communal bathrooms, whereby double rooms is not necessarily the correct name for rooms connected to the neighbour's room, partly through glass sliding doors and containing beds. On the first night we were accommodated in the neighbouring residential area, where there was a lack of towels, soap and toilet paper instead of the idyllic vineyards.

I'm disappointed.

We thought that we were warmly welcomed in a family business. However, the interaction was rather cool, discreet and no more than effortful. We had booked a night with wine tasting and dinner. The rooms were clean and tidy. At the wine tasting and dinner at night we were received emotionally free. With 12 people you could have arranged a nice fake dinner and offered the wine tasting. Unfortunately, the dinner was absolutely nothing special or disappointing: simple sausage and cheese on plates per person, 2 loaves of bread topped with sliced bread and bread, and when we asked about the wine tasting and dinner at night, we could answer to the question of whether we could still have a nice tasting dinner and then offer the wine tasting.

It's a shame.

Great places to celebrate like birthdays, weddings... very nice location right in the vineyards, great outdoors, very helpful and friendly.

Actually a nice location with hard-working staff, however many manques which were individually forgivable but not in total, such as: - strangers in a closed company - entering the common hallway of the holiday apartment unsolicited despite prior agreement while we moved - in order very long waiting times - not completely separated holiday apartments - party on the upper floor has to go through the hallway with bathroom party on the ground floor (too expensive for well over 100 euros) - breakfast partly with significant shortcomings

All together not in line with the price and standard

To tell you the truth, I am generally overwhelmed by the effort and generally regret my time spent on negative things... but as I am still angry after two weeks, I would like to express my opinion on this. However, briefly: - Nails on the floor in the hallway - holiday home without kitchen and no possibility of accommodation of food and drink - outdated accommodation with partially blocked furniture - over-priced accommodation in an old house without charm and in the middle of a construction site instead of a vineyard - too expensive breakfast, but still in a nice atmosphere - unfriendly reception up to emails that were not answered despite the annoyance -....

Unfriendly reception and dirty stay

In the last 10 years, we have not had a worse experience with a hotel than the Villa Hochdörffer. When you think of a family business like this, you are well taken care of: the charm of the family is like a concrete block. Something more unfriendly I have not encountered in a long time.

Wine travel

Arrival and check in with no fuss, very friendly. Rooms were large and clean with good facilities.
Breakfast very good standard, good selections. They make great wine, especially the Spaetburgunder and the Grauburgunder
