Hotel Sol Papagayo Resort

We loved everything about this hotel! So much in fact, that we have gone back 3 separate times. I have not been able to find it on booking sites for a while, but I am very much interested in returning here. For starters, this is a budget hotel. So 5 star amenities should not be expected. There is only 1 bar and 1 restaurant. Restaurant is open for standard breakfast, lunch and dinner hours, and converts to a snack bar in between, so it is essentially open all day. However, service is beyond 10 stars, and the staff is the friendliest we have even encountered in the many destinations we have traveled to. Practical tips: -Other side of the beach is exceptionally beautiful. White sand and a fantastic snorkeling spot. About a 2 km most pleasant walk along the beach to reach this. -Bar closes at around 9 PM: get your drinks in bulk ahead of time, so you can sit on the patio and enjoy the quaint silence. -Rooms backing onto the creek are fantastic: the howlers nest in these trees and you can watch them do their thing while having your morning coffee. Large iguanas roam the grounds everywhere. It's beautiful. -Wifi is available, I think at a cost. But this hotel is so flexible that they will give you the password at no charge, and will accommodate your every request, within reason. -Free parking on site. Free safe in room. -Rooms are all bungalows and there are no floors to scale at all. Everything is ground level. The resort is very small. The last (third) time we stayed here, it was only accommodating 8 travelers in total. One day, the other 6 travelers all went on an excursion and my husband and I had the entire resort to ourselves for the day. The staff were bored and waited on us hand and foot. We pretended that we were billionaires and this was our own private villa with a full wait staff. It was so much fun while it lasted. We made friends with every other guest at the resort and always hung out as a group in the evenings. It was fabulous! -The party town of Coco Beach is just 17 kms away and taxis are very easy to get which will take you there. Drinks at Coco Beach are ridiculously overpriced, but it's a beautiful bar/patio setting and many hours of fun can be had there. -Every one of our concerns (not that we had any really) were addressed promptly and efficiently. The only thins really between the 3 times we stayed there were that one day I broke the curtain rod so curtains fell down. They fixed them right away. Another time a couple of electrical outlets stopped working. Again fixed immediately. And lastly, the hot water in shower was sometimes iffy, but since it's always 35+ degrees anyways, this was actually not a problem and pleasant to have cooler water. We can't wait to go back!
