Stayed here 4 nights with wife and 12 yr old daughter while visiting wife's family and friends in Urumqi. My wife said this used to be only for employees of the company but they have opened it to other visitors now. It impresses as a 4-5 star hotel, stately, lots of wood and marble, nicely furnished, very large and ornate entrance foyer and reception area. Breakfast buffet is included for either 2 or 3 guests (can't remember exactly), from about 8 or 8:30 to 10 or 10:30 am and has traditional Chinese food, but my daughter and I could eat the limited pastries, bread, and rice soup if we didn't like what was offered; I also had salad. The room is good sized; we booked a standard double room and, although it was tight, my wife and I could share 1 double bed or she could share with our daughter. The bathroom was fine, although it was a standard stand-alone room with shower integrated into it so it got a little wet on the floor. The location is near the center of the city, about a 40 minute drive from the airport. We were driven by family and friends most of the time, but we did take a taxi once to a shopping area, and it was inexpensive. Bus fares are very inexpensive, but you need to be familiar with routes/schedules. Security in Urumqi/Xinjiang Province is heavy, with a significant police presence and X-ray machines and metal detectors (walk through or wands) in many hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions. The hotel had X-ray and a walk through metal detector (and wand) with a guard or 2 in the lobby (although they didn't appear to look closely at our belongings). The hotel is built in a compound about a block square which appears to also have the school, a company building, and apartments in residential multistory buildings for company families. Access to the compound is similar to other residential compounds we visited- this had 2 gates (one on either side of the block/compound) with 24 hr security guards; there was a moveable barricade to allow vehicles in or a locked walk through gate for pedestrians (need to show your hotel room card to guards for entry). My wife booked the hotel at a cost of about $48 USD/night after reviewing ctrip. The hotel was not crowded at all; I saw very few other guests. At breakfast around 9:30 each morning there were at least 10 tables with tablecloths able to seat 6 people each, but we only saw perhaps 6 other people at most eating at that time. Note that, as with just about any hotel, there is evidence of a rodent problem... saw at least 1 rat trap in a hallway near the cafeteria and kitchen area on the 2nd floor. However, I would stay here again... it was a great value.
