Ocean International Zhanjiang

I booked a Standard Double Room for one night via Trip.com. It automatically came with breakfast. The hotel is not as conveniently located as other hotels to most of Zhanjiang’s main attractions listed here in TripAdvisor. It is on a major road in a residential area. Nevertheless, I chose to stay in this hotel because it was within walking distance to the city’s two brewpubs -- Beer Garden and Sunsburg (now closed). I was efficiently checked into a room on the ninth floor. It was spacious and tastefully decorated in a manner one commonly sees in local business hotels. It was furnished with a queen bed, two chairs, desk, flatscreen television, air conditioner, minibar, shelving, and a closet with safe and hangers. I had indicated I preferred a non-smoking room. This room actually was one, as indicated by the absence of ashtrays and the non-smoking sign in the bathroom. Of course, that doesn’t ensure all guests will abide by this, but it does help to minimize getting a malodorous room. I found everything I used in the room -- bed lights, plumbing, minibar, air conditioner, USB port -- worked properly. The bed was firm, but not hard. I wasn’t disturbed in the middle of the night by street noise or that coming from neighbouring hotel guests. Sufficient linens of decent quality were provided. For those who may have required toiletries, basic, single-use items were available for free, as were other products for purchase (see bathroom & minibar photo). Two bottles of water were provided complimentary. In comparison to the other breakfasts automatically included with hotel bookings on this trip, I found the Ocean Hotel’s buffet quite generous. There were no Western food items, per se. However, there was a varied selection of glutinous rice desserts and pastries, including durian puffs, which I quite enjoyed. Hot items featured the standard congee and stir-fried vegetable dishes, as well as some meat and seafood items. A machine dispensed a selection of hot coffee and tofu milk. It wa unfortunate, though, that there wasn’t any local fruit besides watermelon. For those who find the Ocean International Hotel is in a suitable location and within their travel style and budget, I would recommend it as a hotel that I would happily stay at again in the same circumstances.
