Erduos Hotel was clean and tidy. Breakfast was good with reasonable variety.
Employees were helpful. Contacted taxi operator and obtained a discounted price of RMB300/- for my tour of Genghis Khan Mausoleum on 18 Nov 2023.
Mausoleum occupied a big area and was well-planned. 
Enjoyed the trip.

Trip to Ordos & Genghis Khan Mausoleum.

I stayed at Erduos hotel with some colleagues last week, as we were visiting clients in the area. The lobby is very impressive, with lots of marble and stonework.

During checking in (which was relatively quick), we were advised that we had been upgraded to suites at no additional charge. Based on the impressions of the lobby and outside of the hotel, I expected the suite to be very impressive - but was disappointed.

The carpet in the lift was very worn, and it then set the scene for the rooms in the hotel. The bedroom was worn out, the bed very hard and uncomfortable, and the room was very hot. Despite adjusting the aircon in the room, this seemed to make no difference.

On the upside, we dined in the restaurant on the second floor, in a private banquet room, and the service and food was excellent and highly recommended. The breakfast was included, and was a nutritious mix of local dishes, and was one of the most delicious I have sampled in China.

If travelling to Erduos again, I would probably stay here, however I would not have high expectations of the standards of the rooms. They do not match the impressive lobby and facade of the hotel.

This was an interesting experience....

I was travelling in Inner Mongolia on business and needed to stay at a decent hotel partially to unwind, partially to write some lengthy reports.  This hotel is supposedly a four star hotel and reputedly the best hotel in Dongsheng.

Well, first at check-in.  They said the procedure for checking in foreigners is too complicated, so they will check-in my Chinese colleague instead.  I have never, ever heard this in any hotel in China in all my years of doing business here.

Second, the room.  Very tired, very worn, shabby.  Supposedly an executive room... well, here's a list of my gripes:
a) the internet cable kept falling out of the socket.  Hardly difficult, as the socket kept falling out of the wall;
b) most of the electric sockets didn't work;
c) the 'coffee' was lumpy and didn't dissolve, it just kindof floated on top of the water;
d) no lock on the bathroom door;
e) beds like boards - no spring in them whatsoever;
f) lots of noise from the corridor;
g) fridge didn't work.  After investigating I discovered that this was because the fridge wasn't plugged in;
h) kettle, teas and coffees neatly arranged - and miles away from any electric socket, whether working or not;
i) air conditioning with a random mind of its own;

Bizarrely enough, there were also selections of condoms provided in the bathroom...

If anyone has cause to visit Dongsheng City (itself a beautiful and clean city), I would advise them to stay in the Phoenix Hotel in nearby Hohhot and just visit Dongsheng by trian.  Avoid the Erduos Hotel.
