AL Shan Hotel

Situated in the middle of West Street sitting on the balcong watching the passing human parade below it could have been any time in the past 500 years.The service was very caring and attentive. Local scenery lived up to all expectations{ of the 20 Yaun note}
Plenty of bars and restaurants in the Old Town area.

Go Back 500 years In Time

Very conveniently located at river end of West St, main street of Yangshuo. Was able to disembark from riverboat after trip from Guilin, check into hotel, leave my luggage in room, freshen up and then rejoin tour group at top end of street for afternoon activities
Clean and comfortable room and friendly staff. Cost only RMB128 ($20) for night during October holiday season!!

Comfortable, convenient and bargain priced

We arraived and immediately upgraded ourselves from a "triple" to the "deluxe suite" for the princely sum of 100RMB (about USD 15) for 2 nights.  The administration involved in the upgrade was unbelievable and took almost 30  minutes until we were eventually shown to our room.

There was some refurbishment going on, read bags of cement lying in a corridor) but the room was clean and spacious, hwever the beds were standard Chinese issue which redefines the term hard.

There was a fair amount of noise from the street but we slept well.

You need to be aware there are zero additional services available, no restaurant and a old tv with 4 chinese channels available.

To be honest the place was  fine and reasoinable value, just don't expect  the standards of a major western chain and you will not be disappointed.

Basic (really basic)

I was appalled by the state of the hotel. It had not been maintained well. First was the door to the room, which had slightly rotted away. Inside, the walls of the room were very dirty, and the floor felt like it had not been cleaned in ages. Meanwhile in the bathroom, the shower curtain had obviously not been changed in the past year, while the bathtub was tilted - leaving pools of stale water from previous showers to gather. This is by far the worst hotel I've stayed at in China. 

The only thing it has going for it is its location, which is excellent.
