Home Inn Normal University - Chengdu

My wife and I stayed at this Home Inn for nearly ttwo weeks, from mid September to late September 2016. The Hotel was very clean, staff was friendly and attentive to making our stay pleasant. That said, it was more akin to a Motel 6 in the US -- no frills whatever. There wasn't even a cafeteria or kitchen that we could find (we could ask for it, either... see next sentence). The biggest deficit was that only one person spoke English (very minimally, often referring to apocket translator for help with limited success).The hotel was inexpensive (about $30 per night) and had plenty of available rooms. Its far from the center of the City (a plus for us) but there are plenty of small coffee shops and local eateries. Outside of that, and the local university, there is little to see. I left with the feeling that I saw the "real" China, in spite of the proximity to the local university, (so the neighborhood is probably "upper middle class". As the capital of Sichuan province, Chengdu is known for its spicy cuisine and, some would say, easier pace that the very big Chinese cities : This hotel gave me good reasons to buy into those two descriptors
