Changbai Paradise Hotel

The hotel building looked like a beautiful ship.  However the vicinity was still a construction site.

We had a very spacious room, toilet was separate from shower room.  Everything worked except hot-spring water bath which was not ready.

Everything worked

This rather grand looking hotel offered very poor service, black out periods with no power and no in house laundry. The rooms are spacious and ok if slightly tatty . Mine had an infestation of ladybirds, which were dealt with by dustpan and brush! The restaurant was cold in the evening and the service was very erratic indeed and sometimes grumpy. Laundry was non existent because of the power outage for 4 days. Generally an OK stay but prepare to compromise along the way. Breakfast OK despite the grumpy egg man. But the star of the show was the very friendly and helpful young restaurant manager who moved heaven and earth to help us and his smile made up for all the grump elsewhere.Obviously language is a problem here as very little English spoken. Good location for the Changbaishan mountain park.

No Power, No Service

The creepiest and strangest hotel we've ever stayed in. Our shower leaked (the whole bathroom smelled musty in general), the water never got hot, and we had black mold on our ceiling. We complained to the front desk but were told there were no more rooms (which is odd because the hotel has 3 towers but very few people were ever milling around so I'm sure this means most of the rooms aren't completed). My husband and I wanted to go to the "scenic" top deck and after finally finding a door out (you have to go through the restaurant) we took a lap around the top of the hotel and saw construction rubble, half built rooms, camping tents, stacks of new deck chairs in a pile and general eariness. We thought we'd might eat dinner in the restaurant since we were already up there but after being seated and given cups that had rust inside and no remorse on behalf of the server when we pointed this out we decided to seek a more sanitary option. This hotel was a mess and will probably never look like the photos their management has uploaded to this site. There are better options in this town.
