Magnolia Petal

It took us a day or so to really appreciate the beauty of Magnolia Petal. It is cramped and there is no closet to hang anything up. But the place exudes charm and there are objet d'art everywhere, reflecting the tasteful artistry of co-host Wendy. We came on our travels from a somewhat stereotypical Best Western in Penticton with the usual standard conveniences. But this place was something quite different. Owner Joe gave us a tour around the multi-level property, which reflected his passion and expertise with tropical palms and many other tropical and semi-tropical trees and shrubs. On our own private deck we were surrounded by beautiful trees and shrubs which gave privacy and provided shelter and home for many varieties of birds. An Anna's hummingbird was our constant companion while an olive-sided flycatcher kept a regular note from a nearby treetop. We loved the deep silence of the forest. Optional breakfasts at $12 a head were delightful with a variety of home baking and healthy fruits and cereal. Referring to an earlier review, which complained about the bed, we found it very comfortable. Wendy and Joe were very knowledgeable about the island and generous with tips and recommendations that were really helpful. If you are looking for quaint and charming rather than standard and predictable this is for you. Look elsewhere if you want great wi-fi, TV and a strong internet and cellular service. We would definitely come again.
