Ferienwohnungen Landhaus Gerum

We have stayed in St. Wolfgang - more accurately Ried, several times. This was our first time at Haus Gerum and we would be very happy to stay there again. The hosts, Fredericke and Leo, who live on site, have good English, were friendly, helpful and available. We stayed in apartment Tauern, on the 2nd/top floor on the right of the staircase.Large living cum dining room with adjacent compact well equipped kitchenette including dishwasher, coffee machine, etc, but missing a microwave oven, though there was a small portable electric "oven dish". The bedroom had the usual Continental twin beds together large double bed. It was comfortable apart from the bedding material which was of some nylon type and hot - but our hosts provided cotton sheets on request. There was excellent wardrobe and drawer storage. Like much accommodation, there was no mirror or electric plug (e.g. for hairdryer) adjacent to the dressing table. Bathroom with 2 shower head types over bath - water was not very hot in shower though always quickly very hot in basin and kitchen sink. Good sized balcony under eaves, so protected from weather. View of lake partly obscured by high trees but not too much. View extended to the hills on the far side of the lake with table + cane sofa and 2 seats + 2 seater bench. All the apartment was attractively furnished in Austrian lighter carved wood style and very clean. There were three long sofas, at least one with in a curtained alcove for an extra sleeper. There was a large flatscreen TV but no English language programmes. Free wifi with routers through the building. We found the connection a bit temperamental and had really to sit on the sofa by the apartment outer door; this was ok but we would have preferred to have been in the lighter living area or preferably the lovely balcony. There was a washing machine, drying room and ironing facilities in the basement. Free use. Also a sauna for a fee and which we did not use. Free car parking space for each apartment. The final cleaning charge was an unwelcome surprise to English renters but all apartments seemed to be dong the same. (It was stated in the booking conditions.) Adequate small supermarket in the village and daily delivery of bread etc possible. Approx. 10/15 minutes walking to edge of the main village. Parking is not really possible actually in the village but there are pay car parks at both ends. There are many restaurants, cafés and bars in the village. During the summer months, there are at least three evenings pw free entertainment in the main square at 8.30pm - 2 x brass bands and 1 x folk dancing. It was lovely to see these as all age entertainers. It was not very cheap accommodation but was of good quality.
