Hotel Fischerwirt am Achensee

We stayed for a week around a trip to the passion play in Oberammergau which was only about 90 minutes away. The extra travelling was rewarded with stunning scenery and this hotel is ideally placed to enjoy it whether a walk around the lake, the mountains, a gentle boat trip or further afield eg a trip to Innsbruck. This is a medium sized family run hotel - we met at least six members of the family during our stay - but has facilities and service worthy of something bigger. for example, I enjoyed the sauna facilities (almost deserted in May despite a full hotel) and our group had use of a spacious meeting room all week. Our room was well appointed with a good balcony view. The evening meals (ordered at breakfast time as part of our group deal) offered well cooked variety accompanied by various regional beers and served by friendly staff. In fact all the staff were friendly and helpful, patiently explaining the local bus system repeatedly to different members of our group for example. I can't comment on price/value as this was part of a complicated package including the passion play.
