"I've found it” said my hubby. "Found what?" I said. “Where we’re going to stay”. I paused, that was impossible. We were finally contemplating leaving our babies overnight for the first time ever and it had to be perfect! I went through the checklist quickly with him. Privacy "Check", Spa "Check”, Fireplace "Check", and most importantly the ability to enjoy the deafening sound of silence "Check". "Ok” I said, “send me the link and I’ll have a look and book". "Already booked and paid for hun". "You what?!" I said with a shudder, nervously I asked him what it cost. "What!" I shrieked again when he told me the price. There was no way he had found such affordable luxury. As I hung up the phone, biting my nails, I wondered what back alley dumpster he had booked us into. In the decade we had been together I was always the one that researched and planned holidays and nights away. Had there been a chance he had picked the right one? It doesn’t matter, I told myself. With two kids in nappies and my youngest with a serious sleep aversion, I knew this was a need not a want. With that I reluctantly said a silent prayer to the universe and reminded myself that he would indeed know what we truly need for just one night of complete peace and relaxation. As we kissed our babies and waved goodbye to our dear friend who offered to babysit (fool!) we headed off up the mountain and I could feel my hubby tense with every kilometre closer. Poor man, with most of our family interstate and me making no money on maternity leave, we both knew it would be a very long time before we would have another opportunity to do this; he'd put a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. When we found ourselves smack bang in the busiest road on Mount Tambourine with google maps telling us we have arrived at our destination, tension turned to slight panic and we shared a look of dismay. How were we to drench ourselves in the sweet bliss of silence? With a heavy heart we pulled into the driveway of the cafe and made our way down, following the signs. As we inched further down the short driveway, we heard and felt the sound of the world melt away. Pulling up in our personal car space, our heavy hearts lifted and hope filled us both as we gazed out over the gorgeous walkway leading to the quaint and well-spaced chalets. "Indulge a While, is what ours is called" he said, and we hoped and planned to do just that. Lugging our trusty traveller down the walkway and hearing only the beautiful sound of the occasional peacock we even allowed ourselves to get a little excited. Effortlessly locating our chalet and our key, I watched my hubby’s hand tremble slightly as he opened the door to the chalet...WOW. I felt my eyes well a little as I gazed upon the chalet in disbelief, it was perfect! "I've done it, I’ve bloody done it" he said, he too hardly believing his eyes. It was everything we wanted. Clean, well maintained and simply oozing petite luxury. My eyes were drawn to the word above the spa. 'Indulge'. I needn't be told again. Throwing our luggage into the corner and of course after taking some Insta-worthy photos to make my mum friends slightly jealous, I made a bee-line for the spa. As I sunk deep into the generously sized bubbling spa ambiently surrounded by electronic candles, the last three years of mummy tension dissolved away. My hubby marvelled at all the buttons and dials surrounding the spa. “Surely they don't all work” he quipped; but yes, they do and they're magic. After ditching the idea of leaving our new little slice of heaven for anything, not even for the promise of enjoying a lovely hot meal in a restaurant without being interrupted, we ordered take-away and got to work setting the fire with the thoughtfully supplied wood and essentials. Settling our newly relaxed bodies into the incredibly comfortable recliners positioned in front of our now raging fire, we both shared a look of complete and utter satisfaction. My hubby then turned off the TV and we both let out a hearty, happy sigh. There it was, the sweet sound of complete and total nothingness. Of course, we had grand plans of injecting some 'romance' into our stay and herein lies my only complaint. After blissful hours of zero responsibility, except whose turn it was to pour the next drink, we made our way to bed with thoughts of romance swelling. Easing into the well-sized and insanely comfortable bed we took a moment to reflect on how we have taken true comfort and relaxation for granted all our lives... And then next minute we were waking up to the sweet sound of kookaburras. That bed was far too comfortable and within seconds had lulled us into a deep, satisfying, unbroken sleep. Now dear reader, if you have made it this far and you are sceptical whether this is a true review, I applaud you! Sounds like this time away is as important to you as it was to us and I recommend you to book with faith and stay sceptical, because as you get older there are very few surprises in life and I encourage you to allow yourself this one. Whether you are weary parents like us needing a night to remind yourselves what the world sounds like without kids in it, or a couple looking for a place to take true relaxation for granted, you will not be disappointed. And now our pensive wait for the next opportunity to return to our new-found slice of heaven begins.
