Basic things that were neglected or done poorly1) no pre check in email was received resulting in us being stuck outside the property as we were not informed of the access code to gain entry into the property. Imagine being caught in a situation when you had 4 cars backed up behind you and you couldn’t get in - enough said2) no air conditioning in the rooms and the windows can’t be open. Rooms are hot, stuffy and poorly ventilated- would have been helpful to have that piece on information on their website so that we could have made a better informed decision in terms of booking3) their complimentary larder - is really complimentary - the items provided eg meats, soft cheese, dips etc all were close to their expiry dates eg 3 days away ie it would have had to be thrown out anyway if it was not eaten. Truly complimentary indeed. Clearly some cost savings here by management 4) Wi-Fi password was not readily available - had to call reception to gain access 5) their honesty bar leaves much to be desired. When I checked out, I found out that they had billed me for 2 bottles of sparkling water which we had not taken from the bar but probably written down by another guest who got the rooms number wrongThings done well1) the property is really lovely with great views 2) the on site service is actually quite goodOverall we won’t stay again because of point 1-4. Wasn’t worth the price paid

Good concept, execution leaves much to be desired

This is a unique property that we had on our bucket list after seeing it from afar the last time we visited Lake St Clair.  The only letdown was the buffet breakfast which is why it’s not a 5 star rating

Relaxation and luxury after the Overland Track

Great experience especially the staff Josh Jess and Lucas 
The common dining  was great to meet people but our room was hot and no windows or air conditioning 
The bed was great and the larder fantastic for a picnic also the e bikes a great to explore the area 


Pumphouse funhouse

This was the start of an Australian trip to visit friends and family. We arrived three planes and 11000 miles later from Europe and we were blown away by the location. The property is literally in the middle of the Tasmanian wilderness and by a lake. The team of people looking after us were top notch with nothing too much trouble. If anything we wished we had stayed longer as we were literally just waking up and it was time to leave. An all round gem of a place and simply wonderful.

Away from it all

We enjoyed our New Year's stay at The Pumphouse. The staff were very good and helpful and the location is exceptional and unique. There felt like there was a slight drift away from the top class establishment which we expected and paid for and that should be reviewed and addressed.

Great but needs a tightening of standards.

Wonderful setting and facilities - beautiful. The staff are wonderful. Food is great! We loved the group dining and made some good friends. The staff organised a Boxing Day cricket match - very inclusive (my first time playing) and tonnes of fun!

A great retreat

Pumphouse point is everything it promises to be. From the moment you are greeted at the entrance  to the morning of checkout. The facility is exceptional, the pumphouse rooms are well appointed, the lounges are beautifully styled, and the view of the lake and surrounding mountains is breathtaking. The communal dinning is a great experience and an opportunity to meet others. Dinning is one of the outstanding experiences of you stay, we loved it.

Three nights in the wilderness

This hotel has almost everything needed to make it absolutely perfect. The location and setting is amazing. You truly feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere. Check in was easy and the staff were beautiful. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms in the Pumphouse are clean, well designed and super comfortable, the honesty bar system and lounges are well stocked with an incredible array of great Tasmanian wines and spirits. 
The use of e-bikes was great. We used them to ride to the Lake St Clair Visitor Centre then completed the 6km walk. We weren't lucky enough to see a Platypus. 
We also used the row boats in the lake which was a lovely way to spend a relaxing afternoon. 
The larder provided within your room for lunches was very plentiful and delicious. We were offered a loaf a freshly delivered sourdough however it never arrived. We were given a few slices from breakfast which had been toasted. Apparently they had supply issues? 
The buffet breakfast was well thought out and offered a massive variety of options. It was impressive. 
The only thing that lacked and really lets the hotel down was dinner. While the service was great, the food lacked. The selection of courses was mis-matched and not well thought out. The second evening meal offered an entree of 2 slices of cucumber and 2 cubes of watermelon? Main course and dessert wasnt much better. Talking to other guests, the opinion was similar. A little disappointing for the standard of hotel and the price paid. A little more thought needs to go into preparing better quality dinners. 
Overall, Pumphouse Point is a stunning hotel and recommended to stay. 


Almost perfect

I have photos of the mould in the bathroom creeping up the wall, broken window screen, peeling paint, if you want them but Room 13 is a disgrace. Rooms out on the pier seem to be much better but the entire place needs a good paint job inside and out and carpets replaced where split and thread-bare.

We had an experience that was not what we were expecting

What a beautiful place … how refreshing. Great service … amazing ambience. Thank you all so much for making our stay such a pleasure. We will treasure it always and will recommend it to friends and family.
