Maria Tango

I cannot recommend Maria's tango house highly enough. My first stay was in 2011, and I have been back at least once a years since then. I returned from my most recent trip about a month ago, and all I can say is, the tango house is my second home in Buenos Aires. Highly recommended for tango dancers, since Maria will always recommend a milonga and sometimes will be attending and dancing with her guests. The tango house is beautiful and charming, with a gorgeous patio always scented with the jasmine that grows there. The salon in the house is perfect if you want to arrange private lessons or practice. The tango house is ideally located in Balvanera, and one quickly becomes part of a real neighborhood in an area not populated with tourists. Nice places to have coffee, buy groceries, find a pharmacy, run errands are all within a five minute walk, day or night. The neighborhood is also quiet and safe, and it's easy to catch a taxi or public transportation from the house. The location is also great for walking to any sight-seeing you may want to do in the daytime when you're not dancing -- El Ateneo Splendid, Teatro Colon, Av Corrientes, Casa Rosada, Cogresso, Cafe Tortoni, etc., are all within easy walking distance. Most of the traditional milongas are within walking distance (El Best, for instance), but it's easy to hail a cab at the corner if you don't want to walk or are venturing further afield like to Canning or La Viruta. I will return again and again to the tango house, because, for me, it's the perfect place and location to stay as a tango dancer. Maria always has a wonderful staff of friendly and helpful volunteers at the house from all over the world -- some who dance, some who don't. Over the years I've been staying in the tango house I have made wonderful friends from all over the globe with whom I still stay in touch among the volunteers and other guests. It's a great place to stay for first-time visitors to BsAs; Maria can develop a program and provide as much help as needed. It's also great for returning guests like myself who are fairly independent in making daily plans in Buenos Aires, yet still enjoy the fun of attending some milongas with old and new friends at the tango house. Again, highly recommended for all, but ideal for female tango dancers traveling alone or first first-time visitors to Buenos Aires who will dance tango.
