We stayed 2 days and it was excellent. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The large drawing room that overlooks Loch Melfort was also available for us to use which we enjoyed. We enjoyed a delicious 4 course dinner on the evening of our arrival prepared and served by our host Mathew. This was our first visit to Melfort House and hopefully we will be back again soon.

What a gorgeous place! The view from our room was absolutely stunning. Our host was kind, helpful and made us a wonderful breakfast the next morning. 10/10!

A haven of peace and tranquillity. The house is very spacious, welcoming lounge with amazing loch views. Full of interesting objects and books.The gardens are beautiful with mixture of wild bluebells but also lawns and a magnificent monkey puzzle tree. The breakfast was tasty and good choice. Thank you and would love to return when in the area again.

Matt was a great host and his home was incredible.

The highland Coo’s was the reason why we came. Place is fine.  Views are wonderful.

Beautiful house, amazing setting and superb food. We were delighted to stay here for a week in September with friends. The rooms are really comfortable with amazing views. It’s so quiet and restful. Delicious breakfast and dinner available which is all cooked fresh. Highly recommended

We had a lovely 6 nights here. Perhaps the most peaceful B&B we’ve ever stayed in, set on the banks of a loch, 17 miles outside Oban.
Breakfasts are fab - full Scottish option (including haggis) and yoghurt and fresh fruit. Views over the loch from the gorgeous dining and sitting rooms.
Host Matthew provided an excellent packed lunch for us and cooked a wonderful meal in the evening on request. Highly recommended

Exceptional one night stay.

Lovely, peaceful B&B

If you appreciate art, history, fine dinning as well as exceptional beauty and hospitality...then Melfort House is the place for you! From the moment we drove up to the house, stepping into the foyer and receiving a warm welcoming greeting from Leah, we were awestruck! The entire house and property is a work of art. The bedroom made us both gasp with it's charm - a complimentary decanter of Scotch whisky on the antique dresser. The king-sized bed was so very comfortable. The bathroom had the most comfortable soaking tub. The sitting room and dining room simply beautiful with so many antiques and quirky items on display. The view from the drawing room and grounds - magnificent! Matthew is a passionate and accomplished Chef. We highly recommend Melfort House. As we commented in the guestbook: "It was like staying overnight in a museum"! Our intention is to return next year.

Magical

Beautiful house and gardens. Matthew welcomed us warmly and explained everything. We stayed in the Loch room which has a beautiful view of the loch. Everything was comfortable and the decor excellent. There is even complimentary whisky provided. The bed was large and helped provide a good night’s sleep. We were able to lay in bed and watch the birds, including woodpecker outside. Breakfast was good and set us up for the day. I would recommend a stay here.

Excellent overnight stay.

The Melfort house is an amazing property with beautiful furnishings, lovely gardens & a spectacular view of the sea surrounded by lambs & song birds.Matthew, the host, was very accommodating & prepared an outstanding 4 course dinner & made to order Scottish breakfast.Our visit there stands out as the best in Scotland!

We agreed to try travelling the following day, which we did - it was eventful and with many detours but got there. Mathew kept in touch throughout to check our progress too, giving us updates on road closures.When we arrived, we were greeted at the door and shown our room, which was huge and very well appointed. We asked for dinner each night and I must say, the food was of the highest standard ( and I've been to a lot of top tier hotels in my day). Mathew had also arranged at my request for prosecco, flowers and chocolates to be in our room to celebrate our wedding anniversary.Dinner was preceded with a complimentary glass of sherry and coffee was in the comfortable and well furnished drawing room. We sat at the large dining table with other guests for both dinner and breakfast, so it was great that we got to meet new people throughout our stay, all of whom were lovely and also intrepid travelers.All in all, Melfort House is a top notch hotel / B&B and definitely a cut above the rest, with fantastic hospitality, awesome food and yet quiet enough to relax in traditional comfort. Perfect haven in a storm

We asked for dinner each night and I must say, the food was of the highest standard ( and I've been to a lot of top tier hotels in my day). Mathew had also arranged at my request for prosecco, flowers and chocolates to be in our room to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Dinner was preceded with a complimentary glass of sherry and coffee was in the comfortable and well furnished drawing room. We sat at the large dining table with other guests for both dinner and breakfast, so it was great that we got to meet new people throughout our stay, all of whom were lovely and also intrepid travelers.

All in all, Melfort House is a top notch hotel / B&B and definitely a cut above the rest, with fantastic hospitality, awesome food and yet quiet enough to relax in traditional comfort. Thank you !



Tranquility in the eye of the storm....

Lovely B&B in a quiet village. The owner was away during our stay so we were served by his friend who was great. There are only 3 rooms which are quite large with all amenities provided and the ensuite bathrooms are modern. Note that the room doors are not lockable although this was not an issue for us. Only areas for improvement might be that the wifi signal in the rooms was quite poor, however guests also have use of the large drawing room on the ground floor, where the wifi signal is good. The room rates are fixed here, and as we booked quite late the other options were dinky hotels in Oban for only a few pounds less so it was a no-brainer to stay here instead. The road to Oban is mostly recently repaved and relatively wide so it is a fast and smooth drive.
