The Archway Guesthouse

Delightful guesthouse close to everything needed in Windermere, but the outstanding thing about it is the owners, Anita and Denis are so knowledgeable about the area and more than that so caring and helpful to their guests. I was especially grateful for their kindness in looking after my needs, being somewhat disabled. Breakfasts were delicious too! Highly recommended.

My friends and I stayed for 3 nights in July on a girl's trip.  My friends had a super cute room with a sheep theme on the first floor (second floor in the US) and I had an equally  cute room on the second floor (third floor in the US).  The rooms were very nicely decorated and both had modern, updated bathrooms.  What really makes this guesthouse special is the hosts Anita and Dennis.  Dennis very kindly helped us get our  luggage up to our rooms and was superb every morning in the kitchen.  Anita is fun to talk to and was able  to help with restaurant and laundry suggestions.  Anita also went above and beyond when my friend left some items in a drawer.  She contacted us right away and was able to send the items overnight to our next hotel.  My friend was so grateful.   The location of the guest house is within walking distance of the train and you don't have to contend with all of the crowds in Bowness.

This was a lovely spot for my stay in Windermere. Very convenient to the train station and bus stop, as well as pubs and restaurants. My room was comfortable and roomy with a full bath, including tub, and a beautiful view of the fells when the weather was clear. Anita and Denis are great hosts - warm and welcoming. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Anita and Dennis, our lovely host were amazing and very attentive to details. 
We stayed at this guesthouse for three nights and was blown away by the quality and care put into every detail.
The rooms were spotless, bright, and very comfortable—clearly cleaned and maintained with pride.
The facilities exceeded our expectations, rooms are spacious with an amazing view and the bathroom was very thoughtful set up.
The view from the window  was delightful — waking up to a beautiful sight of the surrounding and a small glimpse at the Windermere lake. 
And the food? Simply delicious! breakfast was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. Definitely try Dennis' Caribbean spread! But my personal favorite was the English breakfast 😋. 
Anita and Dennis our host, were warm, engaging, and truly enjoyable to converse with. Their hospitality and personal touch made our stay even more special.

I’d highly recommend this place to solo travelers, couples, or anyone looking for a peaceful, high-quality stay. We surely can’t wait to return!

We highly recommend the Archway Guesthouse for excellent value, cleanliness, attention to the details that we really noticed and appreciated, and overall warm hospitality.  Anita and Dennis made sure we felt welcome from the moment we arrived, starting with lovely tea and homemade cake.  Anita shared many details about great walks, restaurants and other cultural places of interest in this part of the Lakes.  Our room was very comfortable, and breakfasts were generous and delicious, starting our days heartily.    Our car was parked securely in the lot behind the house. Do not hesitate to reserve a place at this lovely guest house in Windemere, close to the train station and busses to all the Lakeland towns.

I stayed 2 days with my wife. Absolutely loved our stay at The Archway Guesthouse! Anita and Denis are incredibly friendly and welcoming hosts who go above and beyond to make us feel at home. The breakfast was a real highlight—rich, delicious, and made with care, offering a perfect start to the day. The location is also excellent, with convenient access to transportation that made getting around easy. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

Lovely modern bathroom & home baked food ldelicious on arrival

I had to drive to Barrow in furness to pick up some items but decided to stay in winderemere overnight instead of driving home , we chose the Archway based on very favourable reviews , we booked online and we were kept well informed regarding checking in and out times plus tips on local places to visit and to eat , which I thought was very nice , on arrival we were greeted by Anita who made us feel so very welcome , we were shown to our room and everything was explained to us regarding the utilities , we were also given two slices of lemon drizzle to go with our cuppas which we thought was very nice indeed . Our room was very clean and the modern shower was hot and powerful , the bed was very comfortable too . Our hosts were super friendly to us and were very attentive while we had a fantastic breakfast the following morning , nothing was too much trouble and I cannot recommend The Archway guest house any more highly , the location is very central to the middle of the town and we were not disturbed by any traffic noise at all , we have stayed in quite a few b&b and hotels in Winderemere and the Archway is up there with the best and we really are looking forward to staying here in the very near future .... *****

Anita and Denis are incredible hosts. We had a lovely time in the house which was equipped well and the rooms were cozy yet modern. The breakfast every morning was delicious. The recommendations the hosts made for places to visit were perfect  as well. They were both always on hand to make suggestions or we loved our conversations with them.

Love the Lakes and the Archway

Fantastic location, made even better by sunny weather. Our hosts were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble.  Even my Spanish Inquisition about the contents of the full English breakfast didn't phase them. Parking was a squeeze, but we got in and out to the annoying sounds of the park assist beeping furiously all the time. One minor niggle was the teapot was too small for the 2 cups, so one of us had the ubiquitous teabag in a cup. The room was small and the ensuite even smaller, but that's the price you pay for choosing the standard room. Nice shower, though. All in all a great weekend.
