The Old Rectory

We were on holiday for a week in Cornwall, with Boscastle being one of the places on our itinerary. When I spotted this B&B I just had to book to stay here for a couple of nights because of the Thomas Hardy connection, since I am a fan of this author. We ended up arriving later than the last check-in time but this wasn't an issue and we received a warm welcome. We'd booked Hardy's room but when we arrived we were told that Emma's room was also free and as we'd booked directly via their website we could have a free upgrade to this room if we wanted. It was a bigger room and was beautiful but I decided I still wanted to sleep in Hardy's room! The room was clean and beautiful and I liked that there was somewhere where you could place recyclable waste. Breakfast was wonderful and it was nice to hear some stories from the hosts at breakfast. There was a guest lounge we could use which, again, was beautiful. There were wine glasses available to use so we enjoyed a bottle of wine in there in the evening when it was raining! In here there was a lot of information about the house's and local area's connection with Hardy which guests can look at. There are also books about Hardy/the local area that guests can borrow. I was given a tour of the garden and shown 'Hardy's seat'. The hosts were so friendly and helpful and this made our stay so much more enjoyable. We'd definitely stay here again if in the area. I'm just sorry it took me so long to get around to writing my review!
