Excellent
5939 reviewsBooked a one night stay at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel and Conference Center through the Marriot Bonvoy website in early September at the conclusion of a two-week vacation in Germany. With two exceptions (details later) the hotel was perfect for my stay the night before flying home. Arrived via the IC train (InterCity) at Terminal 2. Was an easy walk through the terminal to the hotel as the directions are clearly signposted and there are many personnel at the terminal to get directions from. On arrival I was checked in quickly and efficiently and proceeded to my room, a Junior Suite paid for with Bonvoy points. If you can get this room go for it! My suite (and it appears all of them) are at the end of the hallway, meaning lots of quiet and away from the elevators. However if you do not want to walk as much check with the hotel when making your reservation and see what fits your needs. I was fine with the luggage I had. The suite has a large entryway where you will find a minifridge, a safe and plenty of counter storage for your luggage. I also had two free bottles of water waiting in the fridge due to my Bonvoy status. The bathroom is large with a huge sink, counter space and good-sized walk in shower. note however that the floor is a bit slippery so you may want to place a towel or mat on the floor. Abundant shower toiletries are supplied in the now ubiquitous plastic bottles as well as soaps and other supplies on the sink. The living room is of a spacious size with a large sofa, recliner with ottoman and a large TV with remote and generous lighting. The separate bedroom had a comfy king bed with another TV, night tables and a huge walk in closet with a robe and slippers as well as an iron and board. The furnishings were clean and well kept and while some may coinsider them dated I had no complaints in this regard since I was there for just one night and I do not spend much time in my room anyway Besides, the quality and size of the room did the trick for me so I won't complain about aesthetics. I wanted to treat myself to a nice big, comfortable room the last night of my travels and that is exactly what I got. There are several dining options at the Sheraton which is right across the hallway from the Marriott right across the hall. One is the Eatery in the lobby a sit down cafe style place where you can order drinks, snacks and light meals. (Had an after dinner drink there). Next to it is a sports bar (do not remember the name) which was in my opinion quite a bit overpriced so I passed on that one. However in the basement level (same level as the covered parking) there is a German restaurant called Taverna which offers delicious food. I had a combo meal there that was one of the best of my trip - do try it. And the prices while not cheap are reasonable for what is offered. Now to the exceptions to my stay which had they not occurred would have made my stay absolutely perfect. My stay in the Junior Suite entitled me to a complimentary buffet breakfast in the Sheraton Club behind the lobby but the agent said it was inferior to the the buffet in the main dining room which would be an extra 30 euros I believe he said. So I took him up on his offer. The following morning I partook of the buffet as had been suggested and it was good and plentiful. However I then checked out the free breakfast in the Club which as it turned out had basically the same offerings on a smaller scale. So the motto is go with your gut or live and learn! I did use the Club the previous night for drinks and pastries though and it was good. The other issue which may not be a problem for everyone is that the Sheraton and the Marriott are both located in Terminal 2 and my Delta flight was in Terminal 1 which necessitated that I take either the shuttle bus or the SkyTrain. Since I could not find the entrance to the train I opted for the very crowded buss which took around 10 minutes to arrive at Terminal 1. So if your flight departs from Terminal 1 allow extra time. That said, I encountered a pleasant surprise on exploring the terminal the night before. A short walk down the hotel accessway to the concourse and by making a right then walking a bit more you are in Terminal 2 where you will fins various cafes and I believe a Burger King if you want a snack during the night or whenever you are there. There also is a REWE supermarket at one end of the terminal which I used to purchase some last minute snacks and items for the reminder of my stay. So to sum up the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport is nice place for a short stay at the airport before a flight. You may use it for a longer stay but you would need to use the commuter train out of the central station in downtown Frankfurt which may not be for all people. But for a layover it is just fine especially if you can score a larger room. Just stick with the included breakfast if it is part of your rate.
