We stayed here for the first time in 15 years during which time it has both burned down and been rebuilt. It was just as good as we remembered. Room was lovely - spacious, clean and comfortable. Food was excellent - we had both dinner and breakfast. Every member of staff should be commended - all were very helpful and friendly. Beer choice good.

I have been here before, a few months ago, for lunch with a few friends, we enjoyed our meals. Then today I had lunch with some of the family. The bar/restaurant was not over busy, although it is August, we were seated promptly. The service was friendly and efficient, and we all had something different from the menu and all enjoyed our meal. Two were vegan and there was choice on the menu. The portions are certainly adequate!

Outstanding little hidden gem in the lake district. Food and drinks were to absolutely die for. Fantastic little walking booklet also which tells you about all the local walks. Staff were absolutely amazing and so accommodating and hospitable. Wouldn't stay anywhere else if we were staying in a hotel in the Lakes again.

An annual family couple of nights at the Queens Head but this year with the addition of our young dog, Spud!
Excellent service, accommodation and hospitality as always which more than  made up for the somewhat inclement weather!

An excellent place to stay, great food and service. The room was great, with everything you need. Very dog friendly. One very minor thing was the tea bags were very weak and flavourless. Breakfast was superb and we ate at the pub for three nights. All meals were very good.

Excellent place for food. Creative chef with interesting different themes each night of the week. Good atmosphere and really helpful welcoming staff. Options for vegetarians and good beer on tap. Very dog friendly and great location surrounded by many options for walks and rides.

The first time we've stated at the Queens Head, and what a lovey experience, the rooms are clean and tidy and comfortable bed .We have been a number of times for food, and it is always lovey . It was the same this time, and breakfast was lovey, too, with a choice of what you can have to eat and drink and also dog friendly, and they are well catered for too.

This is a true gem of Lakeland. Wonderful location and great food…the children thoroughly enjoyed it. Waitress - Ashleigh was lovely. So friendly and very attentive service 👌
This place is a must if you’re passing…and looks like a great place to stay too!!! 


The Queens Head Hotel exceeded all our expectations. It was truly dog friendly not merely dog tolerant as so many hotels are.
We received a lovely warm welcome and were shown to our very comfortable room where everything had been thought of. 
We ate in the bar that evening and were delighted at both the choice on offer and the quality of our meal. There was even a dog menu for our four legged friend and we treated her to some ice cream !!!
Great choice for breakfast too!!!! 
The hotel throughout was spotlessly clean and every member of staff very friendly.
The hotel is situated in a very picturesque spot and there were several walks from the hotel .

Food was fantastic, great steak one of the best.  Peppercorn sauce was amazing.
Would definitely recommend.

An enjoyable Lunch

Hidden Gem

Visited here on Tuesday 18th after a Google search and drive back from Scotland. 

Great location, nice drive off the m6 and via Ullswater. 

Pub is on a quiet road with good parking, though can imagine when the pub is busier it's very difficult to park. 

The pub itself is very well designed, lots of wood and nice comfortable seating. 

Friendly staff and good choice of drinks, especially if you like gin. 

Food was great, we had starters and a main course. Only issue is the veg was frozen and reheated, understand its a rural location but just serve what's local. Also no English mustard!

As a side note, though we don't have dogs yet, we'd definitely come back if we did. Lots of facilities for them from watering holes to lots of different choices of meals on the counter!

Relaxing Dog Friendly Weekend Away

My Wife and I had a two night break at The Queen's Head.We received a really warm welcome and were taken to a beautifully decorated and appointed bedroom.The bathroom was ultra modern.Fabulous view over the fells.
We ate at the Inn on both nights.Food is great quality bistro pub served by very friendly and efficient staff.Really good atmosphere.
Cooked Breakfast was really good but we felt that pre-packed cereals and butter was a rather low rent offering in what in all other respects is a high quality establishment.Some sort of fruit salad or compote should also be offered.
Altogether a very enjoyable stay and very good value for the quality offered.

My wife and I recently visited the the Queens Head Hotel in Troutbeck after being recommended by another local business. When we arrived they informed us that they were fully booked up and would have a table in 90 minutes. We chose to have a drink and wait for a table. Ten minutes later a lady came and told us that they had a cancellation which was great news. The venue was impeccably clean, with some of the poshest toilets I have ever frequented. More importantly we had a first class Sunday lunch including sticky toffee pudding. Overall we were incredibly impressed with the excellent level of customer service, high quality of food and a nice big car park too. Thanks to the team at the Queens Head for making our visit a memorable one and we will definitely be visiting again next year as we are staying much closer the hotel. The hotel even has a special Sunday Lunch Dog Menu! I would highly recommend this incredibly well run establishment. 😀👍🏻

An excellent place for Sunday lunch!

Booked a 1 night stopover on way home to Scotland, what a gem of a place, from the moment you arrive you feel welcome, Room was ideal, even though it was warm a floor fan was provided along with everything you needed to make your stay comfortable. 
Even if you don’t have a four legged human don’t be put off, I found no trace that a dog had been in our room.
The food and service was excellent too not to mention the area which is beautiful even in the rain. 
We will be back for a longer stay next time.

Perfect getaway .

The very friendly welcome from the hosts set the tone for our short stay at Queens Head Hotel.
We had Belle our Boxer puppy with us and she was very spoilt, have never stayed in an hotel that catered for our 4 legged friends as much as we have just experienced.
Had Lunch and Dinner and both meals were excellent , i had wild mushroom ravioli and it was superb!
The dining/ bar area is like a maze, but so well thought out, some very quiet little snug areas.
Our bedroom ( Piller) was huge, very comfy bed, everything we needed was there, huge bathroom with bath and walk in shower, immaculate. Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate all provided, plus a bottle of Old Tom Ale, a great touch.
Breakfast was very very tasty, great selection of cooked food plus a great selection of pastries, yoghurts etc, my first time trying Eggs Benedict , it was a taste sensation :)
Overall our stay was a fantastic experience.
