We were staying in a B&B along the road and decided to have an evening meal here. We didn't regret it. The food was very good and the staff really friendly. I had the fish and chip deal for a Thursday, fish, chips and mushy peas with a pint for £9.95! Excellent value.
Well worth a visit.

Double room warm, cosy and really comfortable. Owners so welcoming and would recommend anyone to stay here.  Evening meal available so had a burger which was delicious.... even if you just stop in for food, you wont regret it..... I for one, will be back

Me and two pals ate here during our NC500 trip.

We all enjoyed a three course meal with drinks.
Food was very high quality and just what we needed added a long day on the bikes!

Definitely worth a visit and I would highly recommend it 

We didn’t stay at the hotel but we were staying at a nearby B&B whose hosts recommended we try here for dinner. We were not disappointed! The lounge bar was very quiet when we arrived and our order was taken immediately. The service was quick and efficient. Both our main meals were absolutely delicious. We ordered the Mac n cheese and a chicken burger. Both were so good and accompanied by a fresh salad. The sticky toffee pudding was also delicious. The prices were very reasonable and we were pleasantly surprised with our bill even with the drinks included. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good hot meal. We are from New Zealand but would absolutely visit again next time we come to Scotland.

We had an evening meal here not long after new management took over. We enjoyed three courses and could not fault anything. The fish and chips were excellent, lovely big haddock, very fresh which was served with a nice salad, chips and lemon, tartare sauce. 
Staff were friendly and nothing was too much bother for them. 
The bar is well frequented by locals which is a good sign. The place quickly fills for evening meals so it can be a good idea to phone ahead or book in advance. 
We will definitely make good use of this establishment when eating out locally. 

We were recommended this place by the A1 Castle View b&b and were not disappointed,I was shocked to hear a previous customer had complained about salty gammon, mine was delicious so was all our food and friendly service to boot.Highly recommended.Ian

I stayed here two nights whilst walking the John O'Groats Trail, which is just down the harbour road.
From the outside it looks rather grim but once inside I had a friendly reception 
My en-suite room was very clean with all the expected facilities. The bed was very comfortable and despite being close to the busy road I slept well. 
The whole place is a bit dated/characterful. 
The locals were friendly in the bar.
I ate dinner in the small lounge and it was really  well cooked simple food.
The continental breakfast was comprehensive.
When I changed my plans they were very  helpful.
So for a basic but good stopover in this area I would definitely recommend.

Didn't stay here thankfully, it was the nearest place to eat whilst we stayed at  a wonderful B&B. Up the road  called A Castle View.   
Food in this pub/ inn, wasn't very nice. Gammon and pineapple,chips and sweet corn. Thought that was a safe bet, well, the gammon was so salty, tough and swimming in either fat or something. Chips were over cooked and hard, the sweet corn was ok !  Had pub food before no problem but this was just not nice. As we had to also sit in the bar area - so called restaurant 4 tables ! Reserved and full, bar area full of locals noisy and every other word was swearing.  Def never going back and maybe the chef could do with a lesson or two in cooking nicer meals.  Other people also told us it's not good to eat there through bad experiences, but we had to find out ourselves.  Wish we hadn't now. ,

Poor food

Please see my screenshot of my review on Booking.com . We paid £68 for the night and really wish I hadn't bothered. They should have paid me to stay there. I didn't even wait in the morning but I would have requested a refund.
