Very good
2 reviewsWe visited Scafell Apartment for the new year 2016. Having booked through booking.com the price wasn't too bad for the time of year. One quick point, the instructions from the agent - not the owner - on how to get to the apartment weren't all that clear and we spent an hour driving around Ambleside in the dark trying to find the place. However one call to the owner when we had signal quickly sorted this and they talked us in to the place. So if you're going to book with booking.com make sure you speak to the owner before you set off to get decent directions as it's easy to find when you get proper directions. The place itself was clean and well prepared with everything you need to stay over. The owner had left a small cake, decent biscuits and a bottle of wine too which was a nice touch on top of the milk and other essentials left there. On arrival at the end of December the apartment was very cold but an hour or so of heating it quickly warmed. And the heating did a good job through the freezing temperatures of the month keeping us warm throughout our stay. The bed was very comfy as was the other furniture in the apartment. It was also quiet. Despite sharing the building with other apartments there is no noise through the thick old walls. The grounds are lovely. If it's wet be careful as it's sloppy, but I'd recommend a quick walk around the grounds and see if you can find the two hidden plaques on the hill. The views are good from the apartment as it's on the first floor. It was great waking up seeing the hills and a nearby lake. You're located in lovely grounds meaning no road noise and you have a nice sense of privacy and getting away from it all despite still being close to where you want to be. Getting to Ambleside is very easy. It's a quick walk of about a mile but you will need a torch on winter months as there's no street lights near the apartment. Not a problem, just bear it in mind. Ambleside has a very good mix of shops, cafes and pubs. We got there late the first night and enjoyed a Chinese takeaway. There's also a small Tesco and other shops nearby and despite being a small town you'll find everything you need within a mile or so. It's also a great spot for outdoor gear with some fantastic shops that often have better prices than back home. I'd really recommend this place. It's location was great for local amenities and hiking. We travelled a short distance away and walked helm Crag which was great. The owner was very friendly and exceptionally helpful.
