Gaffelbyn - Sundsvalls Vandrarhem

Our room was clean and warm. The kitchen in the building is very good, you can find everything what you need.
If you arrive too late, than you can call a number and will have your keys in minutes. 
The walls are very thin, you can hear everything from the another rooms.

This exceeded our expectations by far. A very comfortable room with private bathroom for a good price. The price can also be kept down by doing your own cleaning on departure as they supply all the equipment. It’s also in a great location close to town with great walks and views on your doorstep and free parking right on your doorstep.
Our only issue was really with the kitchen. In 30 years of using hostels, this is the first that I’ve been into that didn’t have a kettle or a toaster. There is a coffee machine but that’s not much use if you just want some boiling water for a quick cup of tea or some 2 minute noodles. Of course you can boil water in a pan, it’s just a little odd. The cooking area of the kitchen is also a little cramped with two cookers and four microwaves but all in the same corner of the room. Overall though, a good stay and recommended.


Cheap non-luxurious hostel. Shared restrooms and showers as well as the kitchen. Very quiet, nice view over the city (it is on top of a hill)

10-minute walk to the city center, which was very handy.
Good if you stay 1 night on a roadtrip, don't book if you stay here longer.

I have to say I expected more. 70 SEK is too much to pay for bed linen and towel. Our room seemed like anyone had been smoking there for a long time... It was not cool. The parking lot should have a roof for cars, since it is a region of intense snow and ice. It was too slippery and dangerous, specially in the night, when it was poorly lit. We chose this because we could go to the city center by foot, but then we saw it was too dangerous, because of the ice on the sidewalk. The walls are very thin and I could hear people on the other rooms snoring. Since there are hotels closer to city center and only for 10% more of this price, I would not recommend this.
