Arts Content Bed And Breakfast

The Arts Content Harbour View was a cozy haven after winter walks on the Otago Peninsula.  The hosts were most welcoming and the welcome food basket was full of all sorts of fresh yummy stuff. The accommodation was very homely and comfortable and the bed so comfortable it was hard to get out of on a wet winter morning! We would certainly stay there again.

We loved this place, the view, the very friendly and helpful hosts, the attention to detail in the accommodation. We can’t fault it in any way.  When we arrived, Cathy took us round the two levels, sleeping and living areas and showed us how to operate the heating, which we didn’t need and explained about everything else. There is everything you could ask for in the bedroom and bathroom, dressing gowns, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, electric blanket, separate heating in the bathroom and bedroom, iron, ironing board, hairdryer. 

Then you go upstairs to the living area, via a spiral staircase, where there are two electric rings, a microwave, an electric pan, a fridge, a wonderful welcome pack and everything else you could ever need, including an umbrella and torch! There is also a tv with DVD player, which we didn’t use much because we were enjoying the wonderful sea view.  There is a table and chairs outside and we had a few meals at it, while admiring the view! The gardens are beautiful too, with a riot of lovely flowers. You can use the garden and there are table and chairs out there too. You can use the door from the bedroom, or the door from the living room to enter or exit. You will have to carry your things down some stairs to get to your room. 

Parking is in front of the art studio in a marked space.

There is also a cottage available but we only saw the outside of this.

Washing facilities are all free and there is a covered area to hang your clothes out.

Cathy was so informative, giving us advice for places to go. Make sure you have a look round her studio too, she is an excellent artist and you can see examples of her work on the walls where you stay.

There are roadworks along the main road to get to Arts Content at the moment but there is a back road you can use via Highcliff Road and Camp Road, which brings you to Castlewood Road, where Arts Content is situated. This back road gives you a wonderful view of the bay.

We would love to return one day. This was one of our favourite places in New Zealand.

Castlewood Cottage of the Arts Content B&b has been thoughtfully created with an artists' eye and travellers' knowledge - generously providing all manner of essentials and luxuries from a delicious degustation hamper, cozy furnishings, heavenly bed, and decorated with exquisite artworks by the owners. Cathy and Alex were full of helpful tips of where to see the sealions, birdlife, penguins and albatross away from the tourist trails - pristine beaches within minutes of the b&b and only a stone's throw (literally) from the bay's walkway.  The Secret Garden is a feast for the senses, and a serene spot to enjoy a cuppa among the colours and sounds of the birds and winds. We could not fault or ask for more as Cathy and Alexs' hospitality exceeded our expectations.

We stayed for two nights in Arts Content Harbour View and would have loved to stay longer.  The accommodation is beautifully decorated and furnished - restful colour scheme with everything co-ordinated - and with everything that you could need.  The gardens are a riot of colour and the views and location are just wonderful. The hosts are welcoming and very helpful.   And to add to this we saw an amazing sunset.  I'd give this more than a 5 if I could!

Our stay at Castlewood Cottage in Company Bay, Dunedin was the highlight of our two week holiday.
The cottage is self contained and has every amenity you can think of. The cottage was spotless when we arrived and there was a very generously stocked welcome basket of goodies waiting for us.
The cottage is very spacious and tastefully furnished. 
The garden is a highlight. I can't imagine the hundreds of hours of creative work that went into making it so special. It's worth the trip just to see the garden.
Our hosts Cathy and Alex were extremely knowledgeable about the many tourist attractions of the area and were very generous with their time in suggesting possible places to visit.
I can honestly say that if there is a more comfortable and better appointed self contained cottage anywhere in New Zealand, I have yet to find it.
I have given Castlewood Cottage an "excellent" rating. If there were a "magnificent" category I would have chosen that one.

My wife and I have been fortunate to spend 3 lovely nights in this beautiful cottage.
It is fabulously furnished, and has the most wonderful garden which you must spend some time in.
The cottage is equipped with all the conveniences you would want such as dishwasher, washing machine, cooking facilities etc.
It’s location too is perfect for visits to the Albatross centre where you can also book a trip to se the little blue penguins, and also, f you have a mind to, a short drive back to the city.

This lovely b&b ticked every box. Sublime view (from harbour view apartment), comfy bed, good shower, quiet, close to Dunedin, slap bang on the peninsula, yummy muffins, lush gardens, laundry facilities, and most of all, lovely, welcoming hosts. One of the highlights of our NZ trip. Thank you Alex & Cathy.

We spent 4 nights here on at the beginning of our 4 week NZ road trip through both islands.   Arrived at night and received a lovely welcome from hosts Cathy and Alex.   We were in the Harbour View accommodation and the view from the upstairs kitchen, living/dining area and outside deck over the harbour is just perfect, particularly at sunset.   The bedroom and bathroom were situated downstairs and entered through a beautiful blue door in the midst of Cathy's wonderfully kept gardens which were in full bloom.   Located in company Bay on the Otago Peninsula not far out of Dunedin, it is very accessible to everything on the Peninsula including the Albatross Centre, some lovely walks, nice places to eat and Larnach Castle (which is a must to visit) and the main centre of Dunedin. the sumptuous breakfast baskets provided are just perfect. Such a perfect way to start our adventure through New Zealand.
