We stayed in the hosteria for 5 days after moving there from another hostel in mompiche Pueblo. The cabanas are the closest accommodation to the surf spot of mompiche and also provide the cheapest rental boards in town. The place is run by a very friendly Ecuadorian family. With 25 per double cabana prices are probably much better than with pre booking on the internet. We really enjoyed the airy open cabana, especially at night when the wind and sound of the waves put you to sleep. They also provide mosquito nets. Of course the use of repellent during sundown was necessary. There was no WiFi in the cabana, which we found enjoyable as it is omnipresent in every cafe in the village. There is only cold water, but regarding the temperature in Ecuador and the water in mompiche this is not a problem. Make sure that the roof is waterproof before heavy rainforcast ;) we totally recommend it if you want to enjoy tranquility, fresh coconuts and some time close to the ocean and do not mind more rustic accommodation. 

I spent the best time of my life in those cabins! Directly on the beach, facing the surf spot, the huge and comfy cabins were very quiet! I loved being there and felt like a princess living above the wonderfull world of Mompiche...Jana and Negro are super nice and helpfull. It was away from the noise of the village, but close enough to shop and to go out if I wanted to. People in Mompiche are also unforgettable and I have been missing this place since I left. I advise anyone hesiting to not think and to go, eyes closed

These beautiful cabins in front of an amazing beach, have everything you need for the most relaxing and laid back vacations you ever had. Apart from its great location in front of a really good wave it offers great fishing and many places to trek with howling monkeys, iguanas and plenty of wildlife. The owners jorge and Diana are the nicest and make you feel right at home. In conclusion you can't go wrong with these wonderful place.

Oh this is an incredible place. 
This little huts are just right to the quiet and beautiful beach of mompiche, just minutes from the surfspot La Punta. I was able to relax in the hammock in my room watching the point. Even in the bed I had sea view :-) The mosquito net helped me to sleep cosily and well like a princess. The room is so nice decorated and build with love. 
Its the perfect place to have a quiet and relaxed time, strongly connected to the nature and the sea :-)

Marvellous accomodation at the beach

First off, I recommend NOT booking anywhere before you arrive in Mompiche. The photos of this place (I think it was booking.com) seemed alright and there were slim pickings online, but there are plenty more options to check-out once you arrive or chat with similar travelers you'll see mingling about in the core of the hostel/resaurant area (about 4 square blocks). Las Lagunas made us wire a first nights deposit to their bank in Germany, for the $88USD deposit made the banks charged us $33 in fees, this is ridiculous and unfair to travelers/guests. In any case this place is overcharging, you can find better for much less, there was a brand new hotel down the street that charged $25 per person for lovely ocean view rooms. Upon arrival to our "sea view" bungalow/palapa we found an airy room with a decent view that we ended up not being able to enjoy the pole in front of it was one of the few places we could hang our clothes to dry out a bit (nothing ever dries out here really as it is built on a swamp), and yes, there are tons of mosquitos so bring plenty of bug spray and use it especially at sunset and on your legs when sitting at restaurants/bars. There was a condom on the tiny bedside table, and a used condom wrapper under the bed (for the life of me I don't know why more hostels/hotels don't clean under their beds..). The hot water was erradic and only available about 20% of the time, the cold water came and went as well. It was a little shabby and became worse as there was no cleaning until last (third) day - after I had complained to the owner in Germany. There was no chairs or tables in the room, so no place to relax except the common open patio area which was also full of mosquitos/fleas and so filthy with food scraps everywhere that we didn't dare use it for preparing meals which we had hoped to do. If you're intending to work with an internet connection here, be prepared for a very slow connection - and it is only in the aforementioned common area (palapa patio).- better just to relax and not get any work done, afterall it's probably a holiday!

a lot (more) to be desired, over priced & underkept

Do not rent here! I agreed to pay $300 a month and he wanted a $200 "damage deposit". He received the $500 about 2 months before I arrived. When I got there, the house and refrigerator were filthy, the linens had not been changed, there were no pots, pans or water, the mosquito net was hanging by 2 corners, many screens were ripped and there was a serious mouse infestation, I was without internet for several days for non payment, there were no locks on the windows and the front door could not be locked for several days. At any time, anyone could have gained entry. I had to go 3 weeks with the same sheets and I had to buy my own towels because the one I was given in the beginning was nasty. The hot water promised was only a trickle and I had to buy light bulbs. IN ADDITION, he was away in Uruguay and his dogs were sick and malnourished. He agreed to reimburse me to take one to get medical assistance and for food. I paid over $70 for food, medicines and the trip and cat food for a cat on the property. The front gate was tied with a string and I left after there was an armed robbery right in front of the hostel. I was a female, solo traveler, in the back of the property and the only guest throughout my stay so I was very vulnerable. After I left he promised multiple times to return my money minus 5 days I stayed past the month. Only after I enlisted help from Expats in Mompiche, did he return any money almost 3 weeks later, and only $150. He charged me $25 a day for the 5 days, which was not competitive with other hotels and the condition of his place. There were tons of vacancies all over town. This is not the way to conduct business or and not honest person.
