Golden Bayon Guesthouse

Frank and Tanya are wonderful hosts.  They make your stay in Siem Reap easy and delightful.  They can help you organize your visit to the temples in the manner you desire.  The rooms are spotless and all of this with a wonderful breakfast included.  The location is perfect as it is situated just off the center of town, where the action is, in a quiet residential community.  The price can't be beat, it felt like a home away from home.

Please do not consider staying anywhere else in Siem Reap. Not only is this the nicest guesthouse that we had the pleasure of staying in as we travelled around China, Cambodia and Vietnam, it is also surely the best value.

Frank was the most generous host you could imagine. As well as being extremely helpful before our arrival in terms of offering advice on our itinerary, he lent us guide books for the temples once we arrived for us to read up on the ones we were going to see, and take out with us to the sites. Not that we needed them, given the excellent driver he arranged for us who was training as a guide so could give us plenty of background information on each temple before we entered. We didn't see a single other driver talking to their passengers before they went in, so this was definitely an added bonus. Additionally, Frank lent us a torch for visiting the temples at sunrise because he thought mine may not be good enough, and then insisted that we keep it for the rest of our trip as we might need it again!

The room was comfy, spacious and had a good bathroom. Each bed was a double with a generous mosquito net. Although we had booked the room online for $10 a night (yes, per room not person!) Frank insisted on giving us the low season discount once we had arrived. On top of this, there is free drinking water provided (even out at the temples- the driver takes a ice filled cool box out which keeps it deliciously cold), and free pick ups from the airport. Our flight arrived at 8am and our room was ready for us as soon as we arrived.

The breakfast was delicious and could be served at any time to suit your day trip. It was a short walk to siem reap centre and we felt perfectly comfortable doing it, despite it being quite dark towards the end. However the restaurant next door (Green Latern) serves delicious food and is a really good cause too so there's no need to walk to town every night!

Overall, it is a wonderful guest house, an excellent way to see the temples and the best value you could imagine. You will not regret it if you stay here, and you will probably view it as one of the best decisions of your trip!

Thank you Tanya and Frank for a tidy base in Siem Reap.  Outside of the old town, but an easy walk, this guesthouse is wonderful.  Wonderful service.  They set us up with a marvelous tuk tuk driver who made our 3 days in the ruins extraordinary.  If we had had longer, we would have gotten up very early each morning and explored Angkor before the crowds.  We were well cared, AC and hot showers, hot breakfast and interesting conversation.  A winner.  And did I say, great value.

The guesthouse is an excellent place to stay. We were in the air conditioned rooms and they were great value. The location is close to the main tourist location but not too close.  We were looked after really well and had an excellent tuk tuk driver taking us on the Temple tours and transferring us to and from the airport.

The room is clean with cheap price. It's good for long stay. I would like to recommend this Goldenbayon Villa to someone who want to save money and get clean room. And It's also have a service pick up from airport and minibus station Goldenbayon Express with Goldenbayon villa too. Come to get experience with Goldenbayon together. 

Staffs are very friendly and helpful during i stay there.
Rooms are clean and sanitary , and more particularly the decoration of the room is very good.
It's near lake and pub-street.
The price is very cheap and suitable but breakfast is not good, only bread and eggs.

Clean and friendly staff

When i checked in there were things that gave me a negative impression. The lady (receptionist) just looked me and didn't said anything, im carrying a lot of things and standing at the counter while she's sitting at the couch with her attention only on her phone. I thought she's going to approach me but she didnt and i call her and said ill check in. She call her co worker to check me in. When i went to the room there were used towels on the table and the room smell rotten things. So i asked for an air freshener to that lady and she just answer me we dont have. And didnt look at me anymore and start using her phone again. So i have friends coming from philippines and im going to fetch them at SR airport that night so i inform the receptionist that ill be going out late. Then when we arrived my other friends is in the other room and the worst part is the AC is not working well. And my friends are very tired so we asked the guy if they could change room he just said tomorrow or maybe not then he go back to sleep. Ugh!!!! We stay only for 2 nights.

Our stay at the Bayon Garden Guesthouse had a terrible start, followed by many ups and downs.

As we arrived we had to witness a verbal fight between the owner and our Tuctuc-driver. Even though the driver was part of a scam that started right at the border, there's no need for getting rude towards people.

Then the photos on the website and also most of the pictures on Tripadvisor show the previous guesthouse. A friend who stayed at the place last year highly recommended it, but on arrival we noticed that the owners had moved to a different place much less comfortable and beautiful as the previous one. Unfortunately, the owners didn't updated their website regarding such information, photos nor address since last October. 2nd negative surprise on arrival.

The rooms, with fan and fridge, are very basic and in need to be renovated soon, especially the bathrooms. At this point they looked dirty even though they seemed to be clean.

That said, we have to add we stayed for four nights after all. Mainly because we didn't spend much time there, were very tired and didn't want to search for a different place (it was the high season and the city was jammed with people and most guesthouses where already booked).

The owner himself can surprise you in very different ways. On arrival we set down for about two hours and had several drinks and talked, also about the arrival situation with the driver for which he apologized. But in the end we cannot describe him as very friendly or helpful, but quite judgmental. 
As an example: one early morning we asked if we could have breakfast already and his answer was: "If you would speak louder, that might be possible." We experienced several situations like this during our stay and it made us feel very uncomfortable.

Good point is that he organized a fine tour guide for the temples.

To take stock: we wouldn't go back there and don't recommend the guesthouse, mostly because of the owners behavior.

Not to be recommended for several reasons

Room was cheap and fine... hotel ordered us a tuk tuk for a full day to ankor at an agreed price. We agreed duration not the route. Few hours into the trip when we told driver where we wanted to go, he told us that we either pay twice that or come back to the hotel after half of what we wanted to see. We had angkor tickets just for a day so reluctantly agreed to pay and take it up with hotel after. When we arrived back and explained what happened, staff called the driver who ended up yelling at me over the phone. They didn't resolve the situation or even attempt to. All we got was a blank stare and shrugged arms. I don't think I ever came across such lack of accountability considering that the driver was associated with the hotel and had their ad on the back. I would urge people to watch out before they book anything there. Our experience could have been so much better and stress free.
