What an amazing experience - to find yourself in the Soviet Union of 1950s, in a majestic building full of columns and massive blocks of Stalinist architecture, inside and out. Yes, it is a 21st century now, and the huge indoor pool has been closed for years, the park in front of the Sanatorium has broken paths covered with moss, but the Sanatorium itself, built in 1956, has been thoroughly renovated and is very clean and comfortable. If you go there, choose the booking with medical treatments even if you are in perfect health. The price difference is very small, and you will be entitled to a whole gamut of typically Soviet treatments, like mineral baths, circular showers, mud patches, delicious oxygen cocktails, mineral water, massages, inhalations, quartz treatments, you name it. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful, doctors and nurses, the reception girls, the cafeteria personnel. Just keep in mind that very few people speak any English there. In case you are a vegetarian, expect to eat lots of salads but not main entrees (meat and fish only). Overall, it is like Nights at a History Museum. Go for it, jump into a Time Machine and spend a few nights in the era long gone!
