Hotel Suites Coyoacan

My wife and I were completely happy after a week stay at Suites Coyoacan except when it came time to check out on Sunday. On Saturday I had made a special point to be sure our bill was paid and especially laundry and mini-bar charges paid because the woman at the desk said she did not work on Sunday. At departure the security man presented us with an itemized bill showing we owed for the laundry and mini-bar, the same $70 pesos we had paid the day before.  It was pointless to argue with this poor man so we paid again and he gave us a receipt which I did not receive on Saturday.  We made our reservations by phone while elsewhere in Mexico. We held our reservations by credit card and on arrival were charged what we were quoted on the phone.    Our suite was adequate, very clean and well supplied.  Our floor was mopped daily. We did not have nor ask for a kitchen. Everything worked. The Internet can be slow but this may not have anything to do with Suites Coyoacan. There are movies at the office if you wish to borrow them, some in English which we appreciated. There is a stocked mini-bar in the room for which you will be charged should you use it. The shower was very good. The queen size bed was hard which we like. The Inn is a quiet and peaceful refuge from the noisy city. Gated and 24 hour security.  Coyoacan is part of a larger university area. It and the surrounding areas seem totally safe day and night. There are very few if any other places to stay in Coyoacan so it was nice to find such a pleasant place. The staff were always ready to help. Several speak English.  We ate breakfast most mornings at a Sanborns which is across the street. There is also a Starbucks if you can't break the habit. One place we might suggest is the Sonora Grill at the intersection. Convenient, trendy, pricey, good service, good food, very friendly to foreigners.  Coyoacan is a pleasant colonial district of Mexico City. Home of the Freda Kahlo museum as well as other good museums. There are a number of very good restaurants at or near Plaza Centinario and Plaza Hidalgo and within walking or short taxi/bus distance of Suites Coyoacan.   Calle Francisco Sosa is in Coyoacan, many historic buildings and museums and public exhibits not to be missed. The surrounding streets are lovely. Parke Viveros is a very large, beautiful, semi-primitive  park close by and well worth cutting through to go to Calle Francisco Sosa or just to wander about.  Also San Angel, another of Mexico City's upscale suburbs is within walking distance and well worth visiting. The metro (subway) is a two minute walk from Suites Coyoacan.   You can get to almost anywhere via the metro and it is extraordinarily inexpensive.  Taxis & buses are abundant.  There are a number of reviews of Coyoacan itself which are worth reading.
