Pension Danaos

OK, so this has had a couple of bad reviews, and part of what I am about to write may read that way too. Thing is, I really don't intend it to. There are good things about this place, but you do need to know what you're getting. So, we got a room really really cheap. Despite what the last (English, like me) reviewer claims, it's really not down a 'series of side streets'. It's one turn - about four yards - off the main strip of bars and shops which takes you within a couple of minutes to the port and the sea. Anyway, some negatives first. The first room we were put in was extremely small and very basic, with two single beds, a fridge and a shared bathroom. I mention this because this was not what we were led to expect. However. To revisit the last review, though there were only two bed sheets, it was very warm weather, so that even with the air-con (which as the previous reviewer says, was working) on, there was really no need for more than a sheet. We also got proper towels, unlike the last reviewer. So, we were a little unhappy with the room, and went to see the owner, who in fairness to him, moved us to a bigger room for the next night. Connected to this, I would say that in fact the staff were helpful, and the room was cleaned every day. I guess what I am saying is this: Skiathos is quite pricey (though it's good fun and has some great things outside as well as within Skiathos town itself), and if you want to come at relatively low cost, and maybe spend the money on cocktails and dinners, and just use it as somewhere to lay your head, then you could do worse than this place. It's exceptionally well-located, it's cheap, and the staff are polite and helpful. If, however, what you want is a luxury stay where you stay long periods in your hotel room, perhaps in a jacuzzi or sipping champagne by a pool (quite unnecessary in Skiathos, but certainly fun, nonetheless) then this is not the place for that. In effect, you get what you pay for. Don't expect too much from this place, but it does what it's supposed to, and the staff are good. Genuinely, if it's luxury you're after, then go elsewhere. But it's fine for a base, and the price, location and staff make it worthwhile if that's what you're after.
