By far more best looking option in or around Haikou airport. I arrived late and had an ongoing journey from the railway station the next afternoon so finding a hotel within the complex of both was very convenient. Large, clean, comfortable rooms at a good priced. Well equipped as any similar standard western hotel. Staff were fine and spoke English. Wifi was fine too. I can’t comment on any other facilities as I just went to the shop in the hotel for supplies on my arrival and skipped breakfast. Would certainly stay again.

Comfortable and well priced 

OK, firstly....this hotel isnt soooo bad. It is close to the airport and this scores points...but it isnt as you may see described online.

There are NO sports facilities, no swimming pool, tennis courts or basketball or gymnasium...and if there is internet, it must only be in premium rooms.

In the elevator is a picture and the Chinese characters for a "western restaurant" (my partner is chinese so can read this).

She asked at reception for the location to the Western restaurant, and was told to go thru to the left...on doing so, we found a chinese restaurant, and asked a waitress where the Western one was?

Dont have! She said...so we went back to reception, spoke to the same receptionist, who again gave us the same directions. When my GF then told her in Chinese, that the waitress told us there isnt one, the receptionist shrugged, and said we should just travel to the city instead he he.

This isnt a bad place, and it isnt really expensive, our one night cost 270 rmb incl evening meal for two and light breakfast from room service....but this is a typical approach to customer service in China.

A note also about room service...it shows an American Breakfast.....not available...a continental breakfast..also not available....and the first 3 things we chose from the Chinese breakfast menu, also not available!

Dont believe anything you read online about this place

We stayed at this hotel for one night in order to avoid having to get up at 4am in a city hotel to get to the airport by 5am., two hours before departure, which was 7am.

When we checked in, the staff assured us there would be no problem getting a taxi at 5am in the morning. (They could not speak English, but our Chinese was more than good enough, and they could understand us.)

The next morning when we went down there were no taxis around, and the said they could not get one that early in the morning--end of conversation, they showed little concern for us.  We were resigned to walking, even though it is a difficult 300 meter walk in total darkness pulling heavy luggage, and my wife has a bad back.

The two girls on duty could not operate the credit card machine to cancel my deposit and charge me for the room and previous evening's meal.  After about 20 minutes of trying, they gave up and asked for cash, which I gave them as time was getting late we were starting to panic.  They never gave me a receipt for the cash payment, nor did they give me back the c.c. deposit receipt I had given them.  

 We started walking to the airport.  About 50 meters from the hotel, a taxi spotted us and pulled up.  Just as we got our luggage loaded and were starting to pull away, one of the girls came running out and said I still owed 60 RMB for the evening meal, which was true, so I gave her cash for that.

Fortunately, we got to the airport early enough because it was crowded and chaotic in the terminal.

I was resigned to the fact that I would probably be charged twice for the room.  By some stroke of luck, they must have figured out how to cancel the deposit after we left because we have not been charged for it on the credit c. statement.

Their POOR SERVICE resulted in our having a miserable 5. a.m. nightmare at the Hainan Meilan Hotel.

A bad experience

This hotel was for our last night in Hainan Island.  As my flight out is at 10.30am, check in 2 hours earlier, I opt for this hotel to ensure that we would have the least hassle.  How wrong am I.

This hotel belongs to the same group as the Kangle Garden Resort Hotel in Xinglong and they are as far apart as you can possibly imagine.  

While researching for hotel, I came across comments on this hotel being “run down” and “unfriendly staff”.  However, I discovered that she belongs to the HNA group whom owns the Kangle Garden Resort.  So there must be some kind of standard that the HNA group adhere to.  And after our excellent experiences in Kangle, my expectations were not lowered.  

However, when we reached the hotel main lobby, we disembarked the coach and getting our luggage out, there were no porter in sight.  So much so that one of my cousins who was carrying her nine months old baby had to go inside the hotel, locate a trolley and push it out to the coach to load all the luggage.  Only after loading everything, then the porter appears and he rudely asked what rooms are we staying in.  We had yet to check in!!!

After checking in, we told the same porter the room number and he immediately pushed the trolley to the one and only elevator in the hotel.  When the elevator arrives, without allowing us to go to the room first, he started pushing the trolley in.  As our luggage was rather large, he was unable to get the trolley into the elevator and he resorted to banging the luggage in place right in front of us.  He only stop and allow us to get on the elevator when his colleague of higher seniority (I think) came.

The rooms were run down and dilapidated.  All the comments I saw on the internet were true.  The bathroom looks dirty and the tiles are broken.  Most of the electrical sockets are not usable and I had to try about 4 of them before finally getting the electric flask to start.

The beds were hard and one of the towels had a big hole in it.  Lightings were dimmed and there is no switch for the fan above.

This is definitely not from the same management as the Kangle Garden Resort.  There simply had to be a different management group.

Around the hotel, there are neither sights nor restaurants available.  We had to go to Haikou to had our dinner before taking cabs back to the hotel.

The only good point for this hotel had to be the location, as it is walking distance from the Meilan Internationa Airport, which we covered in less than 10 minutes.
