Below expectations

The happy house is cheap and clean. They’ll cook you breakfast for a few bucks. The staff is very helpful, friendly and accommodating. I don’t know what the person who gave it one star was expecting for $30 a night, but we’ve stayed there several times and it’s a great place to crash. Not fancy, but has all the basics. Tv,AC, private bath safe and secure and convenient. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. If your room is facing the street, it is noisy in the morning at rush hour, it’s San Salvador. The house next door has/had a rooster who thinks you should be up anyway hahahaha. Highly recommend

Great value

The people were courteous and room spacious with a clean bathroom and comfy bed.  Good WiFi Signal in the rooms and within the property.  The hotel is walking distance from 2 major shopping malls and a movie theater.  This is great for anyone who wants to immerge in the culture and people, like I did.  

I would definitely stay with them again.  However, if you don't speak Spanish, come prepare with a translation App.  That should remedy any misunderstanding.

Remember, this is not the Hyatt or Hilton Hotel.  Don't expect extravagance and you will not be disappointed.

More Value than Cost

I stayed here for three nights recently.  Advance email communications were okay (not super) as it normally took 2-3 days for responses but still acceptable.  I stayed in a second floor $25 per night room that was huge, four beds, ie, much more than I needed as a single traveller!  It was also quite clean and included AC and TV.  Bathroom was also large too - note that they did have shower body wash gel but no other soap.

The staff did not really speak English but we got by with what little Spanish skills I had.  The $25 rate included all taxes as well as free breakfast.  Make sure you get a receipt for payment.

The wifi worked great and there was a fresh water dispensor in the lobby.  I see that they also had a computer in the lobby as well but I never used it.

They lock the front lobby door during evenings and you have to ring the doorbell for the staff to open it.  This was acceptable.

The area itself is a three minute walk to the Intercontinenal Hotel and the large Metrocentro mall where there are lots of locals walking around.  There are also quite a few other smaller hotels on the same street so I never felt unsafe walking in the immediate area.

I just wished that there was a safe in the room to store valuables and cash since for much of Central America, credit card payments involve a whopping 10-20% surcharge resulting in the necessity of carrying a lot of cash.

But for a clean and safe accommodation, the Hotel Happy House was more than adequate.

April 2016 Review Of Hotel Happy House

Hotel Happy House is a simple, but great place to stay. The rooms are cheap, yet spacious and clean. The staff is friendly and provide excellent service. They serve a great breakfast too.

It's located in a quiet neighborhood, with some nice restaurants at walking distance.

Great place, good value for your money

Our room was very big, however not cosy at all... The bathroom was old and with minimalistic interior. Cleanliness okay. Avoid checking in when they offer you a room towards the side of the main street. It was extremly loud and smelled extremly like exhaust / smog! We got up at 7 am and it was extremly hot, loud and bright in our room as we had no curtains and the sun was shining directly into the room.
