Sehel House

I just discovered this little known guesthouse on a beautiful serene island tucked away in Aswan. The island is home to a peaceful Nubian village as well as some ancient treasures and historic inscriptions within rocks on local hillsides. I was received with true Nubian hospitality by the owner who even took me to have dinner with his wife and children. Walking around the Nubian village at night was such a tranquil experience and the locals never hassled me but were warm and welcoming. The Guesthouse itself sits on a knoll just seconds up from the ferry landing with exquisite views of the Nile and the fellucas and little villages on the other side. It is very tastefully decorate with comfortable furnishings and super large bathrooms and a huge covered terrace out front. The rooms had both fans and AC. The first thing you notice are the fruit trees out back. Hussein, the owner, has the largest garden of all the Nubian guesthouses where he grows most of his own food- fresh mangoes, lemons, vegetables and practically everything you can imagine. It is all organic, fed with water straight from the Nile, with no chemicals added. The breakfast was delicious and included homemade bread, baked by the owner's wife. I have been to a few other Nubian guesthouses before and some of them seem to have become a little commercially minded and somewhat overpriced. I was so delighted to discover this gem- so unknown it was hard to get contact info over the internet, and more economically priced than most others. If you want to discover the amazing beauty of the Nubian village and its peaceful people and experience true Nubian hospitality for a good price, try this place, escape to Paradise and leave all your stress behind!
