Gorgeous mansion building from the early 1900's. No hot water (less than lukewarm, and it gets cold at night!). Service is friendly, but the bar/cafe is mostly closed. The neighborhood is sketchy, especially at night, and very noisy.

Beautiful Building, but bad service, no hot water

On arrival it held so much promise. The grand colonial building is beautiful.
Although arriving early, we found a group had been given all the rooms in the main hotel even though our booking had been done well in advance.
We were shown down the stairs to the back courtyard, than down some more steps to a musty smelling cellar where some rooms had been converted to hotel rooms.
Our thoughts were, " well this is something different, but at least with all the stone floors, walls and ceilings it should be quiet for a decent nights sleep." Our room and bathroom had drywall ceilings for a modern look but no natural light. The lights had to be kept on.
We soon noticed it was far from quiet. In fact any noise from the hotel above was amplified, voices, people walking, especially the noise from high heeled shoes,
The first night a power failure plunged us into total darkness, so we caught a taxi and went out for dinner.
On return the power was back on. Going to bed we found no blankets under the thin bed cover. We had very little sleep due to the noise and cold. Finally got some sleep in the early hours as the hotel quietened untill the noise started again around 6 am.
I went to reception and requested another room for our second night due to the noise, lack of sleep, cold etc.
I was told they could give me another room about 3 pm.
We went out for the day with friends, arriving back about 4:30 pm.
A staff change had occurred and they knew nothing about it, informing me the hotel was fully booked and a room change was not possible.
I retired to our room to have a sleep as I was very tired.
Soon loud music, voices and people singing assailed us on top of the hotel noises above.
The receptionist said she would attend to it. The music stopped for  a short while but started up again.
I approached the manager and had him come down to listen. He left, I presumed, to attend to it. When there was no let up I went back upstairs to find the manager sitting and chatting with people.
I again had him come down to listen and expressed my unhappiness with our room.
Finally some sort of resolution happened as the music did stop, but it was still impossible to sleep with the noise from people walking around and talking above.
I cannot comment on other rooms as I did not experience them.
But I would advise anyone who is offered the cellar rooms to decline and go somewhere else.
I have stayed in many hotels with wooden floors where you can here the guests above walking around or even talking due to thin walls. But this is far worse as the sound is amplified.
We expected a room in the hotel, as per the advertising, not below ground.
The cellar rooms really should be at a discount but no discount was offered.

Dungeon experience

Have visited Quito many times and seen this fantastic old building before. I didnt realise it was a hotel, so when I found out i thougth i would give it a try on my next visit.  The hotel was disappointing, poor service, poor food, and a noisy celebration. I wouldn't go back, there are far better options. I thought it was going to be a nice boutique style hotel, in fact it is quite tacky.
