Wonderful and clean family run hostal with good customer service and a beautiful terrace view of the city. I recommend staying here to walk into centro histórico. The family is very helpful if you have any questions. The terrace view of the city is beautiful.

Wonderful family run hostal with beautiful terrace view

We stayed 7 days in this clean and recently renovated Hostal. It is a 15-minute walk from Historic Quito. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, so the Cafe Delirium you should try (see in another review). The small Tia market (open house) and Quito's observatory are very close by. There is also the central market in the San Blass area that deserves a visit. The hostal is secure, so there is no one who wants to come. There is someone at the reception 24 hours a day and there is plenty of surveillance cameras, so a safe place.

A good hostel, welcoming people, clean and affordable.

Lovely Hostal.  Room was spacious and airy.  Beds were SUPER comfortable.  Breakfast was good, coffee was GREAT!

On a side-note:  My hubby, in his absentmindedness, left a pile of cash on the dresser when we went sight-seeing in Old Town Quito.  When we arrived back to our room, the bathroom had been cleaned, bed had been made and the pile of cash was still there.  Please note it was all American small bills, and could have easily been spent.  We laughed at our silliness and admired the integrity of the establishment.

Would stay at Hostal Marsella again, and recommend for an authentic Quito experience.

Charming Establishment; Great Location.

I had the most horrible experience here.  The place is like a jail. All exits have 5 locks and 3 doors.  In a fire nobody will be able to escape.  The staff are like rent a cops and cobstantly looking at cameras.
50% of the quest are actually people who live there on a monthly basis.  A lot of lotiering in the hotel.  On my stay i had people lotiering in front of my door and making noise until 2am. The pictures are very decieving. I recomend another hotel in the area.

Jail like setting

It's a nice, well-located hostel. You can walk to the historic center. The owner gives you concrete and accurate information about the surroundings and how to get around by public transportation. The room and bathroom are impeccable! The only thing that the bathroom lacks is details like a shelf to support toothpaste and brush, besides there is no toilet, so you get into a bathroom and don't know where to support the towel.

Good accommodation option

Just arrived back to Toronto from Quito and stayed at Hostal Marsella instead of where I usually stay in Quito. I got my own room for around 30$ usd which seems to be the standard rate with my own bathroom and TV. It is in Alameda neighbourhood which is close to old town and close to La Zona. Above all, the owner (didn't ask his name) is a legend. Dried my clothes for me for free after getting soaked in the rain and will arrange a taxi for you at whatever time. Definitely not a bad thing choosing this hostel as a basecamp for your Quito explorations. Roof top hang out area as well. Props to the boss.

good location, good price, and cool owner

Great and cheap place to stay in Quito. The owner are super nice! We arrived much earlier then check in (6 am) and he gave us a room and we paid only one night. And they opened the kitchen just for us in the night time because we were hungry. How awesome is that?! :))

Great place to stay in Quito 

I am an older American, 63, who has enjoyed lots of time in South America over the past thirty years.  I first came to Hostel Marsella in 1998 when I was studying Spanish for two months, snowboarding on Cotopaxi, and traveling with friends to Colombia.  Last year I spent several weeks at Marsella and again this year, both times refreshing my Spanish in Gringlolandia/aka Mariscal.

Hostal Marsella is a place you can count on for a secure room, strong wi-fi signal and dependable staff.  They leave you alone and I try to leave them alone.  It's a traditional hostel in Ecuador, you have to work with them if you don't speak Spanish, they don't speak English or coddle you.  Situated right next to Simon Bolivar Ecovia metrobus station and between Mariscal and Centro Historico, you can go either way quickly.

I come back because it's a Quito institution, it's always there and reliable.  The owner's family is growing and Estuardo is the patriarch of the house.    You will hear kids (last year it was a new baby!), dogs, and music.  One difference with most small family-run hostels is that they have a lot of capacity, rooms everywhere.  So ask to see other available rooms if you don't like the first room they show you.  If you are lucky, there will fun happening with extranjeros like yourself enjoying the chill scene on the rooftop porch.  I have met some key lifetime friends up there.  This year I enjoyed the young Venezolanos and an incredible couple from Myanmar, visiting for the international Habitat III conference.

The attention and kindness of the staff was excellent! resolve your concerns or problems as soon as possible.. super fitted! very complete breakfast and excellent dishes from the restaurant.

The hostel is very cozy, has an excellent atmosphere and the facilities are in excellent condition.It has a terrace with an excellent view of the city.I highly recommend it to visitors.
