I booked two rooms at Hotel Othello through booking.com.  I messaged the property to tell them we would be arriving after midnight and they responded, confirming that it was okay.  When we arrived (this was a business trip, I was with other colleagues) they person working said they had no rooms for us and we did not have a reservation.  I checked on booking.com and we did have a reservation for six nights.  At this time there was a conference going on in Quito with 45,000 attendees.  Luckily, we were able to find a room at a hotel our other colleagues were staying at.  This is completely unacceptable.  I would never recommend booking a room here.

Do not trust your reservation - they sold our rooms

Stayed a few nights at this small, cozy hotel to visit Quito. Situated between the historical centre and Mariscal, just around the corner from Mercado Artesanal, it's a great choice. On Sunday the bike tour through town is at the front door! Rooms are small but clean, private bath and heated. I surely will return here if back in Quito!

Fine stay at perfect location!

Last month, my wife, who was in the cafeteria with her handbag, turned around to pack her computer and before she turned around, her bag was gone! We were quite taken aback by the quickness with which the purse had been stolen. 
The reason why I am rating the hotel badly is due to the following:
1) The staff kept telling the police that my wife did not have her bad with her which was false
2) There were no cameras
3) The staff were generally uncooperative
4) According to the police, a theft that took place this quickly more likely would involve the staff. But they couldn't arrest them due to lack of evidence.

Be careful of your belongings

If you only need a place to hang your hat while you enjoy the city, this is a great place.  The price is reasonable, good location, the staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and bright. And, they offer free wifi.  Really can't ask for much more than that!  Would definitely stay here again.
