Liked · location: close to the pier, restaurants, minimarts, and tour agencies.
reception ladies were pleasant and helpful.
my daughter had a biking accident on our way back from el chato, they let us back into the room we checked out already and clean up. very helpful.

Disliked · the family room we had was bare minimum, you got what you pay for. we didn't want to spend big bucks because we only needed a place to sleep while out and about during the day.
i'm sure i left behind my video camera on a stick in the room because i only used it for snorkeling and left it on top of the cabinet to dry up, didn't use it on the day we left, and conveniently forgot about it when we were rushing around helping our daughter out. called the hostal from the ferry boat to san cristobal trying to have it retrieved and was told it couldn't be found. the camera isn't worth much, but all my snorkeling videos are in it.

good location for spending the nights in puerto ayora, minimal facilities

An excellent service, with very convenient prices. congratulations and thanks for making our visit unforgettable. highly recommended, we hope to be back and enjoy fantastic moments again.

 Holidays

The hostel located in the heart of the small Puerto Ayora has many positive points such as location, room with excellent space, security, various amenities, a pleasant waiting room and living area next to the reception, having a basic (but great) breakfast, free Wi-Fi at all points... but some points deserve attention, due to the age of the building/ and the structure itself. Simple items such as the bathroom curtain (box) with the arrows weighing due to the age, my bedroom door is quite worn out, the third floor is very spacious... or: I would like to buy a bathroom in the morning. I want to buy a bathroom in the next room (repeat: it's an old optional, economical, but it's a little more expensive) but the rest of the house can be repaired.

economic accommodation with good cost x benefit

I stayed here for 4 nights.
The room is nothing special, but ok and most importantly clean.
The guy who makes breakfast is very nice. The breakfast is basic. A portion of scrambled eggs, a bread, jam and butter, coffee/tea and juice.
It is write that hot water is available from 07:00 PM to 06:00 AM. I had one time the luck to have a hot shower and that was at 04:00 PM (???). The other times at 08:00 PM and 05:00 AM I only had cold showers.


If you like cold showers... 

We stayed here 2 different times - room 9 for 2 nights and then when we returned room 3 for 1 night. The hotel was easy to find via maps.me when we were dropped off at the bus stop. Location is close to the pier and walkable to the Darwin Research Centre and Tortuga Bay. The 2 rooms we had consisted of a double bed and 2 singles. Room 3's bathroom was bigger. Room 9's bed was more comfortable. There is a water cooler in the lobby. They lock the exterior door at 7:00pm and you are given a key for after hours. Breakfast is provided on the roof top if you ordered it when you booked your room. 
The signs on the walls state that hot water is only available from 19:00 to 6:00. 

Great location 

My partner and I stayed here for four nights. It's in an excellent location, just down the road from the main street with the port. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful. There is free drinking water in the reception area which is a bonus. The room was clean (except for the floor being quite dusty), spacious and the beds very comfortable. If you do stay here please be aware the showers only operate between 7pm to 6am but there is running water from the sink tap all day long. Despite this we would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again!

Excellent location, very helpful staff

Pros: The location is very convenient. Two blocks from the pier and one block from the kioskos at night. There is free filtered water and wifi, although the wifi is unreliable and slow. Rooms are cleaned daily and there is air conditioning in the room (but sometimes it stops working if the temperature is set too low for a long period of time).

Cons: I stayed in a room on the ground floor, room 5. It's a bit dark with no outside window. The bathroom is a bit grimy looking and tiny. It can get noisy from people walking pass, from the reception area, and from the plumbing. English is limited, but the one staff that does understand English is rude and arrogant. I told her my AC was not working and she rolled her eyes. The second time it happened she explained to the other staff in Spanish why it happens but not to me. The other staff was very friendly though.

Very well placed, close to the almuerzos and merendias as well as to the sea.
The roof top is cool (not oriented to the west thought, so no beautiful sunset from this place)

Con :
Very low wifi, but hey, you are not there for that :)



Cool hostel very well placed, nice rooftop

The Hostal Gardner is located in the second row in the center of Puerto Ayora, just a few minutes walk from the pier or the fish market. Next to the Hostal is a kiosk. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in the area. From the outside, the Hostal makes an invisible impression so that we would almost have walked past it. Next to the reception there are a few chairs so that guests can use the WiFi there. Our room was on the first floor with two large windows to the street side. The staff had two large double beds so we could decide on one. The lamps at the bed did not work, which we did not even have at night.

Unspectacular - but good

Hostal Gardner was a comfortable place to stay for 7 nights. For the first 2 nights we stayed in Room 8, which had the back side of a stairway cutting through the middle of the room, and could have been a head knocker. After our cruise, we stayed 5 nights in Room 9, which was larger and more open. We loved the daily included breakfasts on the terrace. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. We didn't need the aircon. The blanket on the bed was a bit thin. It was quiet at night for sleeping. We loved relaxing on the covered terrace in the evenings, after we were tired from walking around the town. The wifi worked best in the morning, but not well at night.  It was great to be able to store our bags at the hostel after check out.
