Pop House Montañita

We stayed here for about one week. The place is great with a large garden, a barbeque and a big kitchen. Easy access to the beach but not to close to be noisy. Just the perfect amount of everything. I recommend.

Pop House is first off a unique and affordable hostel.  Individual cabinas are set into the deep vegetation, hammocks are strewn about to serve any sudden attacks of tranquilidad, and Diego is a gracious host.  One of the attractions here for those staying in other hostels in the area is the backwoods launderette.  Diego's wife mans (or, womans) the remote little laundry, with puppies, chickens, wild parakeets, a beer or two, a hammock off to the side, Diego's wife, a guest or two with a couple of beers, and laundry day turns into a Ecuadoran jungle adventure.  There's a communal kitchen, a commons area, a bodega for essentials, and . . . tranquilidad !

The price is right at $10 PP, but they were pretty stingy with only allowing infrequent water use. It was pretty annoying to have to ask them to turn on the tank every time wanted to cook or shower. The room is comfortable, but offers very little ventilation and can feel like a sauna even at night. They were not that attentive or helpful when it came to cleaning the room. Other than that, it's quite comfortable, and a good distance away from the noise of town.

Quiet and affordable

Great place with lots of stuff

We booked one night here at the beginning of our stay in Montanita since I had reserved our intended hotel one day later and it was not available when we arrived.  It was the most affordable option given the circumstances and for $40 total I won't complain too much.  Honestly we did not experience to much of the place since we arrived late and proceeded to our intended hotel first thing in the morning.  We had a room in the main building.  It served it's purpose.  But it was not as clean as I would have preferred.  The beds were clean as far as I could tell but the rest of the room was quite dirty.  Also the window would not shut all of the way, allowing bugs to enter.  Also there was not any hot water, it was just warm enough to shower, but I soon realized that this was common in Montanita.  The young man who checked us in was very nice.  Overall good value, good location if you want to get away from the constant loud music of the town center and don't mind walking, but some better attention to cleaning is needed.

Affordable and relatively quiet for Montanita. Not the cleanest.

I wouldn't say it was the best place I've ever been but it was good. It's location is a little bit far from the center but the good point is that it's very quiet and in a very cool neighborhood. The service is good, the wifi is good but the rooms are not amazing. Not very clean and dark... Given that the prices are not cheap, I don't really recommend the place.
