Hotel Metropolitano

Good hotel on a good location (although it's noisy). Room was clean, shower was hot, Wifi was working (quite slow though, but that was because my room was located a bit far from the wifi access point). 

$15 for a private room with bathroom.

Worth the money

In all fairness the Hotel Metropolitano was clean throughout , well-located and the staff was generally kind, professional and helpful.

That said, for the price ($36 for a double with private bathroom including the IVA of 12%) it was really not a great value compared to other establishments in this part of Ecuador.  No breakfast was provided even though other some other hotels in Loja in the same price range do include some sort of breakfast.  Nor was there any type of housekeeping service.  If you're going to call yourselves a hotel, maybe provide hotel services?

We stayed on the third floor and the Wifi signal didn't reach our room.  I had to go sit on a bench on the second floor to send an e-mail.

Overall our stay of two nights was really fine and pleasant.  But the bill of $72 we got upon check-out was really a downer.

Clean and well-located, but too expensive for what it is.

The best of the budget level options at $12 for a single.  The place was pretty empty and feels weirdly prison-like when wandering through the open halls and you can see into empty rooms of five or six beds.  A tad worn out but otherwise appears to have a business crowd.  Hot water did not work in the morning the one night I stayed and wifi worked most of the time but did cut out occasionally.  Luggage storage and check out at two is nice.

Staff was helpful with recommendations and directions, although the latter were often off enough to get quite lost for walking/bus locations.  While I realize this happens a lot with tourists, they were a bit short and gruff, instantly saying no, when I realized my iPod had gotten stolen in Loja and asked them to check around the hotel.

We got a reasonable price for a 5 bed room but the bathroom was only divided from the rest if the room by a partial wall.

But eh late checkout (2pm) suited our needs and the staff was very helpful

Helpful staff in budget hotel

I wanted to stay at an economical hotel for one night, and I asked for the price at this hotel. I was $15, so it fitted the necessity; however, no sooner did I get into the room, than I wanted to leave. It smelled horrible and the room itself was horrible. It was not worth the 15 dollars. Nevertheless, I left my stuff there since I had to go to college fast. When I came back, I told them that I wouldn't stay there because I didn't like it at all and still they charged me $5 for the 3-hour thing. The guy said that if it had been his boss, she would've charged $10. Can you imagine that? Not recommendable at all! you can find better places for $15. I myself went just around the corner, across from the park, and found one for $20, but It was worth the 5 dollars extra. Again, Don't stay there! People at the front desk are nice though.
