We stayed there for one night. The staff is so unfriendly. The location and hotel is very loud. AC did not work. Only one towel for two people. They want more money for the room than we had at our booking.com reservation guaranteed. 
Not recommandable.

Unfriendly Staff, Loud, not recommandable 

We arrived yesterday afternoon, asked to see the room and accepted as it was lovely and clean and had air conditioning. 

We then went downstairs to pay. We had made the booking through Booking.com, secured the booking using my credit card and expected to pay our accommodation whilst in Guayaquil with credit card. But guess what: THEY REFUSED CREDIT CARD. I checked the
booking conditions again and there was nothing said about this. Distress #1. Luckily our friends were still with us and they were able to lend us the money as we did not come prepared with that much cash. No receipt was given for the payment, it was just written up in a book. Apparently they won't give you a receipt. 

We finally dragged ourselves up the stairs and into our room. I then found they had JUST ONE TOWEL in the bathroom. Distress #2. We decided to go out to find food so spoke to the two girls in reception to get another towel, a bath mat and a hand towel.   Upon our return, nothing had been done. So down the stairs I go again and try to explain to the guy in reception what I needed. Finally after much gesturing he gave me an old towel for the floor. I said I needed another towel for my husband and a hand towel. He brought a bath towel up to the room so I called him into the bathroom to show that I also needed a hand towel. He finally came back with one. 

Now for a shower ... I turned on the shower and guess what: THERE IS NO SHOWER ROSE. Distress #3. My shower consisted of a shot of water coming out of the wall, like trying to get clean under the hose! I took a photo of it and when I showed the fellow behind reception he just grinned and acknowledged it. Still nothing has been done about it. 

This morning the TOILET PAPER RAN OUT. No replacement. Distress #4. On our way out I asked the fellow behind reception to put more toilet paper in our room. You guessed it ... We came back after our morning out and nothing had been done. Again, we went downstairs and asked for the toilet paper to be replaced. In the meantime we have had to use spare serviettes we happened to have in our possession. I can happily say that it has now been replaced. 

We have also had to go out and BUY OUR OWN KETTLE AND TWO CUPS as they don't have any such facilities. Distress #5. 

Probably the most frustrating thing is the way the staff just snigger and do NOTHING. I very rarely write a negative review, or maybe there was just a thing or two that could be done better but I've truly found this experience less than optimal. 

Positives: air conditioning works really well, room is clean, fridge works. 

We have a five-night stay and we have been here less than 24 hours. I wonder what other distresses lie ahead?



The only good thing ... It's clean!

We spent one night in Guayaquil where we had a very good evening. The Hotel Versailles is exactly as the Lonely Planet described it: large rooms, king size beds, clean and inexpensive (35 dollars), hot water, not very charming but perfect for the price in the central, quiet district of Guayaquil. Some of the rooms overlook a quiet street. And the staff were nice.

Tourism

We arrived very late in Guayaquil, so we took the hotel because of disponibility and because it was close to the center.The street was dark, as the rooms were old and a little stained, it sounded high (something colonial), there was an old air conditioner, the TV plug was very high, some of the paintings on the wall were cayendose, it looked tetric.Also, the hallways of the rooms were dark, total silence, no noise, the floors were all dark, my friends were afraid to be alone, which they called the hotel del terror.The reception guy stayed open when we arrived in the morning.

There is no return.

This hotel was listed as spotless by Lonely Planet. The room was incredibly dirty and broke down. We were late and only for one night in Guayaquil. Thank God we had our own sleeping bag with us so we didn't have to go to this creepy bed. This hotel can only be avoided!!!

Warning, please.

Recommended by Lonely Planet, but a place where the staff didn't give a damn, the wifi only worked in the lobby, the en-suite was dirty and overall the hotel was dingy. At $35 a night for a room with double bed it was expensive, compared to other 3 star hotels. There are much nicer places within a couple of blocks that are also brighter, cleaner & more friendly. 

Don't stay here!

Stayed here because it was really late when I got in and it's near the Malecon and everything. Great location, not such great service and a little pricy. But it's Guayaquil, not Banos, so that's to be expected. The guy who checked me in spoke a little English, and made sure I had soap and a towel and everything. Had a lizard running around on the ceiling all night, I thought it was cool but most people probably won't.

Not worth it

We arrived late at bus station in Guayaquil without a reservation. This was first available place, that was listed in Lonely Planet that my husband could find.
Reviews not that great online but for one night it was sufficient. It was clean, had cable, hot water, wifi. Had to ask for towel and didn't have soap but for price, we were satisfied. 

Okay Hotel

Although prices have increased a bit this year, you can have a great double room, large, bright, with large LCD TV, hot water, wifi for $35 in a central location, 3 blocks from 9 de octubre Avenue. A good choice to stay a few days in Guayaquil, definitely better than many hotels in the area. The staff is a little distracted and indifferent but overall everything works well! Much better than the Suite Madrid hotel, in the same area, which we found excellent reviews on the internet but where we found ourselves definitely bad! Antonella and Silvio
