Mi Casa Hostel

Stayed here for 3 nights, and can say that this is one of my favorite places I've stayed at in South America. Mi casa has a well equipped common kitchen, common dining area, TV living room, and a nice high ceiling outdoor terrace. Has a strict curfew quiet time, for those that intend to get some quality sleep. 

Stayed here for 2 nights. The hostel had a great relaxed atmosphere, was very reasonably priced and staff were very helpful with advice on local things to do. Location was a small walk from town but not in a bad way. Good kitchen and courtyard space. Bathroom / toilet facility’s were perfectly adequate. Friendly staff looked after our bags prior to our night bus and let us chill in the hostel and booked us a taxi to get to the bus station. Would definitely recommend 

The Mi Casa Hostel was one of the best hostels I have ever seen. As I was studying Spanish in Cuenca for several weeks, I decided to stay here for over 4 weeks and did not regret my choice one second. The owner and all the staff are super friendly and helpful. The bath and rooms are always clean, as well as the kitchen that is provided.

Had a great one night stay here before I had to leave...
Pros: comfy bed and privacy curtains on each bunk in the spacious 6 bed dorm. Lots of charging points and very strong wifi. Powerful hot shower. Lockers. Really welcoming staff. When they found a bed bug problem in one set of bunks in my dorm (I didn't get bitten) they were straight on the case, the downside being we all had to leave so that they could fumigate, but this is how a hostel should deal with the problem.
Cons: about 10 blocks from the main plaza in Cuenca. But totally safe to walk at night.

Good vibes hostel

Just one night...

Super easy, chilled hostel with plenty of local information

Clean, friendly, great atmosphere!

I liked this place...at first.  It's a large house turned into a hostel with great beds and a big kitchen. It's no where close to the City center and the staff doesn't go out of their way to tell you anything about the area.  You have to know what questions to ask. There's a huge tv in the living room without cable and only sad movies to watch (which the owner says is the only kind of movie she likes). The owner fake nice. There's hot water in the shower once you figure out how to use it and wait 5 minutes for it to get hot.  My friend never got it to work for her. 

My biggest problem with this place is that the policy states that there is no smoking in the rooms and house.  This would be great if the smoke that's allowed in the enclosed courtyard didn't drift right into the kitchen' s always open windows, the livingroom's always open doors, and the bedrooms always open window that can't close because there's a cord running through it (as the owner pointed out after I  complained about getting sick from the cigarette smoke I had already told her I was allergic to and she watched me suffer from and made excuses for since her boyfriend was the biggest culprit). An enclosed courtyard with a cover over it is another interior space. My friend smoked also but would close off the area before she did so I wouldn't get sick and it worked. The owner didn't feel her boyfriend needed to extend the same courtesy to her paying guests.  

To add insult to injury, one of her staff ate my 4 bananas. When I asked him directly about it, he went and got me more but no one ever admitted to eating my quail eggs.  Not acceptable.  

The place is clean, the beds are comfortable, I felt safe there but I wouldn't recommend the place.
I and another girl in my dorm left there.  I moved to Pepe's Hostel.  They have a covered enclosed courtyard as well and charge a $50 fine to anyone caught smoking on their premises.  The beds are large and much more luxurious for $2 more and it's in a very quiet part of the City center.
