The hostel manager and the rest og the staff is really helpful. We arrived early in the morning from a nightbus and was offered breakfast, even tough we had not checked in yet. Our room was lovely, and the bed was comfy. Would recommend this hostel anytime :)

Very friendly staff, close to the beach, pretty cool hostel with pool and places to chill out. They have a cool deal whit a nice italian restaurant amd the offer tours to the isla de la plata. I recommend to stay here

Me and my friend stayed here for a few nights. The rooms are clean, the owner is super nice and the location is ideal. It’s just what we needed after some days traveling through the coast of Ecuador :)

Terrific hotel a short walk from the beach. The management was wonderful and extremely helpful. One of the nicest hotels we stayed at on the coast of Ecuador. Pto. Lopez is a beautiful bay area with a great beach. We also enjoyed the food at this hotel.

The hotel looks just like the pictures. It's small but enough. The TV is too small there's not much to watch on the television and the wifi signal bearly gets to the room so if youre looking to use the internet alot for some rooms you would have to stand close to the door or go outside. Clean rooms.

Stayed for 3 nights with my 3 grown children.  We arrived at 3:30 in the morning but were treated respectfully even though we had to wake them to let us in due to the hotel being locked for the night. The hotel is conveniently located near the beach and restaurants.  The room we rented had a double bed and 2 bunk beds which was perfect for the 4 of us.  The hotel offered 3 breakfast choices and the staff was very friendly and helpful.  Santiago, the owner, is very knowledgeable about the area tours and activities.  He helped us schedule the tours and even assisted us in planning the remainder of our vacation once leaving Puerto Lopez.  Santiago helped us plan a great and memorable trip to the Amazon for camping and hiking.  He made all of the contacts and negotiated the prices which were extremely reasonable, helped line up the transportation and even helped us with lodging in Quito in a suite that he owns in Quito. .  My family feels very fortunate that we randomly picked this hotel to spend a few days.  The friendly, extremely positive atmosphere was wonderful.  If you want to stay somewhere where the staff and owner care about your entire vacation and not just your stay at their hotel this is the place.

Great Stay in Pto. Lopez

Pros:  A cute little hotel in a great location in PL, very friendly service, a small but nice pool for hanging out, cranking AC in the room, and the best hotel breakfast we've had in a while.

Cons: On some things, they seem to go out of their way to not even try.  The internet speed was 0.5 mbps, basically like dial-up.  Both of our beds had no blankets and one had a bed skirt as a top sheet.  The fitted sheets could not have been more crappy.  We had a gecko and a cockroach in the bathroom.  The kitchenette was really dirty and outfitted with one plate and a couple of utensils, that's it.  An electrical outlet was hanging loose from the wall.  We visited the rooms of two friends and they had similar but different issues.  

With just a little effort, this could be a cool little hotel.  Hopefully the owners will try...

Combination 1 star and 4 star experience

Puerto Lopez is in a remote area of Ecuador that claims to be the "Poor Man's Galapagos".  They are trying to develop this area as a tourist destination, and truthfully, we were disappointed.  We were fortunate that the whale migration coincided with our vacation because that was the most spectacular site that we saw.  We expected to see more wildlife on  Isla de la Plata than the birds.  We did see some sea turtles, but it is a stretch to compare it to visiting the Galapagos.     The hotel gave us their big room at the top of the stairs.  We had a trickle of water for the toilet and shower.  The tv didn't work, and the manager said he hadn't paid the cable bill.  After 3 days of asking for water, we saw a truck pull up to fill their tanks.  We paid more on  our Expedia reservation than others who walked in without reservations.  The breakfast that was included wasn't much: coffee, bread with jam, and juice.  The hotel could have been cleaner.   The pool is very small, and the water did not appear fresh and inviting.

Just okay

We arrived at 6am and considering the reception is 24h, the service we received was extra rude; the guy was surprised we were trying to get in...(?) During our stay, there was a 6-8 person group in the hostel that was extremely disrespectful : spitting litteraly on the floor, screaming, opening our door in the middle of the night (twice) and making people switch tables because they felt more important at breakfast without asking. All the other travelers of the hostel agreed this was completely out of control. We asked a refund, we got it, without a single word from the guy working at reception who was aware the whole time of what was going on and who I gave the details to. We left after a single night. Not a place to go.

Very bad experience

The low rating is due to: no electricity/generator power from midnight until sometime after 8 AM (we left at 8 AM) that resulted in NO running water in the bathroom/shower/toilet and no fan or A/C in a room with one small window for ventilation. We had to leave the window open so needless to say, mosquitos were out in full force and the two bars on the street were blaring music until 2 AM. A sweaty sleepless night with high humidity after strong rain. On the plus side: the neighborhood has the beach, restaurants, banks, and pharmacies within a 1-2 block radius.
