Hostería La Casa De Hacienda Otavalo

Brought a group of students & parents here as part of a visit to the Galapagos & Ecuador.  Paola & the staff were exceptionally friendly & helpful (they speak limited English, so be ready to practice your Spanish).  Lovely hotel, lovely people.  Rooms range in size from small 2-person rooms to 6-person casitas with fireplaces, which the staff will gladly get going for you.  Delicious meals and a full bar.  If you're traveling in the area to see Otavalo (famous marketplace), visit the local artisans in Peguchi, hike/boat the Cotacachi volcano/Cuicocha crater lake, visit the town of Cotacachi (famous for leather goods), etc., this is a great place to stay.

Just outside of Otavalo on Ñan-Calle Ruku Ñan a back road going to Iluman is a Hacienda called Hosteria La Casa De Hacienda. Off the beaten path quiet and great food very nice rooms for one to the family. The grounds have wonderful mature trees and plants. They grow most of the vegetables in their gardens and the view of Taita Imbabura is one of the best.  We have been there for lunch three times now, two during the week and once on Sunday. The first time was lunch the (simple) standard lunch, soup, fresh juice, main plate and dessert. They gave us a great tour of the rooms and grounds after lunch, it was great. They are a wonderful couple working hard to make your experience the best possible.  Sunday lunch (Menu del Dia) was even better, fresh local farm chicken leg and thigh. It was very big and so tender it just fall off the bone. Our third time was on a Thursday and was no different. We had the  Menu del Dia. This is different than the simple lunch as it came with an entrée (appetizer), soup, main plate and dessert and their homemade juice. There simple does come with a nice dessert always. The simple is $3.00, the Menu del Dia is 5.00 during the week and the weekends are special and are $5.50. Today’s entrée was avocado, rice and tuna on lettuce with a wonderful dressing. The soup was cream of shrimp soup with these little homemade shoestring potatoes that had been deep fired……… one of the best I have had. WOW! Main course choices where Chicken, beef, of pork chops. Could not resist the chops. Now in Ecuador they cut them very thin and these were pan fried with an onion gravy I think. Salad with corn, peas, tomatoes, lettuces, cucumbers, carrots and a lite dressing. Potatoes, rice with red onion and green peppers great Aji (homemade hot sauce) for all things but I really like on the rice and in the soup. For dessert was this wonderful crepe with mora (giant black berries) sauce with a Nutella in the middle. As well a blend of homemade juice sweet and tasty. So for the simple or the Menu del Dia you cannot go wrong, or better yet come and stay the night. Breakfast is included. Walk the grounds, quiet, beautiful gardens. Or just sit and stare off at Taita Imbabura it does not get any better than this. It is maybe a ten-minute taxi ride from Otavalo or grab the adventure and take the bus, just get the bus headed to Iluman and tell them you want off at the Hosteria La Casa De Hacienda. Rooms start at around $35.00 for a single. Cozy and cabin like. I am sure your stay and or lunch or dinner will be one of your highlights of your trip to Otavalo. Iluman is just down the road and is well worth the trip to see and buy some of the best hats around, Iluman is well known for their hat making. Enjoy the photos, and be sure to come and enjoy the great food!

Great Place to Stay in Otavalo

Interesting, character filled old world establishment with nice gardens. Good breakfast. Rooms are large with fire place for heating. Unfortunately the fireplace was lit late & died out early in the night so the room, generally, was cold (stayed mid March'15). Bathroom was old, cold & uncomfortable. Hot water took quite a few minutes to come through.  Lighting was dim. No internet or safe in our room. Internet was available near/around reception. Path from reception to our room was rough and muddy due to some light rain. 
Although Hosteria La Casa was attractive and safe, my wife and I found it to be uncomfortable.
