The location and rooms are excellent. Check-in and check-out were really easy, efficient, and without issues. The on-site meals are expensive for the area, and light comes in the windows very early (so that may wake you up) but this is an excellent hotel. Wi-Fi was relatively good, the shower worked well, the bed was comfortable, and parking was easy to find. Plus, it had excellent views from the room, a very relaxing stay.

Excellent stay

Nice quiet rustic cabins in a great location on the island. Peaceful setting with great views of the mountains. Food is limited and expensive, and if there are only 1-2 guests there that evening, there might not be dinner served at all. There aren't really any other options for food nearby, so you may want to get groceries in town for your room. Staff is great and helpful and gave good advice on using buses and getting around the island. I would stay there again.

Tree house is totaly amazing and the views are out of this world. The only minus were the issue with internet WiFi, and a bit too open toilet/bathroom for a mixed group.

For anyone wanting to stay in accomodation close to nature, this cannot be beaten. We stayed in the ‘Honeymoon suite’, a semi-circular shaped room with a lovely balcony area overlooking a valley cloaked in trees. There are only seven rooms spread around the curtilage of the hotel. By pre-arrangement dinner can be provided. This is a set meal usually of fish or chicken with a vegetarian option. This food is shared with other guests dining in the evening. On Saturday and Sundays pizzas are offered. We had two nights meals, including one pizza meal. This was prepared on a thin crisp base, but there was plenty of topping and a good selection of choices to choose from. The set meal was a fish (Mahi Mahi) cooked in sauce with lots of side dishes, including vegetables, rice and lentils. This was also very good. 

At night, the area is alive with sounds of the forest and because the rooms are semi-open, you will undoubtedly get ‘guests’ in the room, we had two resident geckko's. There is the protection of mosquito nets and we have few problems in this regard while staying here. The ambiance is very peaceful.

In order to make the most of the location, a car is really needed because it is some way out of town. There are one or two other restaurants in the area but again these need a car to get to them.

The room itself was okay but there were some aspects which could be improved. There was no decent mirror, no beside tables and very low lighting in the room after dark. However we managed to get hot water when we needed it, and there are plenty of plug sockets for electronics.

It undoubtedly had lots of atmosphere and we were pleased with the overall experience. 



Rustic stay in a beautiful forest location

What a truly marvellous experience! I was really looking to experience Dominica, not just stay there and Cocoa Cottages made this trip that bit extra. Nestled in the high forested valleys of Roseau, it made were we stay part of the adventure rather than just somewhere to stay between treks. We were staying literally in the forest canopy and with no walls you could lean out and pull a banana off a tree. 

This isn't for everyone, it's not quiet with the frog chorus in full swing, but it was really a trip highlight for us. Bugs weren't a problem, but we had full mosquito nets just in case, which made the beds even more cosy. In fact, I wasn't expecting the treehouse to be so well dressed, but it was well furnished and very comfortable, especially the bed which was great. In spite of the rustic setting we had a lovely warm shower and high speed internet. The kitchen was basic (no hot tap and a simple camping stove) but with the hotel hub for fabulous breakfast and dinner, we didn't really need it. My family included a nine year daughter, who didn't mind the wild setting at all, and really enjoyed herself.

Staff were very friendly, owners wonderful hosts and meeting other guests for dinner conversation was a lovely addition. Also, being in the Roseau valley made it the perfrect position from which to explore Dominica. We came for the jungle experience and got it! Highly recommended.

Amazing jungle experience

We absolutely loved our stay at Cocoa cottages. It felt like a little oasis just 15 minutes outside of Roseau. Even though we weren't able to stay in the treehouse, we loved the Bwa room, which was big enough for our family of four (two adults+ two teens). Breakfast was prepared every morning at 8am. Unfortunately, we never got to try dinner. But, it smelled delicious. Advance notice needs to be given for meals. Do yourself a favor and book dinner ahead of time. It was challenging to find restaurants open in the evening. Also, if you get locked out, like we did, know that there is a key to the padlock on your key ring.
I definitely want to stay longer next time we go to Dominica. Two nights was not enough to discover this slice of paradise. One week will give you enough time to explore this corner of the world.

Beautiful oasis just outside of Roseau

We had two fabulous meals here, prepared by the German owners, Oliver and Tatya.   The jungle setting is stunning, with lovely cottages perched over a river valley.   We stayed in an airBNB up the street, but came here for two late dinners after a day of diving.  Even though the regular cook was sick, the owners rolled up their sleeves and made us two delicious pizza and salad meals, accompanied by a delightful cabernet, served in family heirloom glasses from Oliver's family.

Our stay here was great! We were here Nov 8-10 2022. All the rooms are quite different from one another. Some are in the main building some are separate cottages. We loved ours and it had a great view. The owners, Oliver and Tania were interesting and wonderful hosts. When they aren't there, Silvie, their manager, keeps things running and is  also wonderful. Silvie or Shawnisa did all the cooking. No meat but plenty of excellent fish and veggie dishes. Lots of good local veggies that we never had before. Everything that we had was great! Wine and beer are available for a reasonable price. We really recommend this place!

You will love Cocoa Cottages!

One word: breathtaking. This spot is conveniently located 3-miles from downtown Roseau, but it feels like a remote rainforest retreat. A nice walk (or a short drive) brings you to Trafalgar Falls. There are hot springs in the area, quaint bars and restaurants, and stunning views in every direction. The friendly staff are talented chefs, and they are always willing to help with organizing activities and trips. The nights are serene: the sounds of nature—and the rain on the roof—are the perfect sleep elixir. When we come back to Dominica, we will stay at Cocoa.
