The cabin was nice, well furnished and equipped. The swimming pool nearby is very great but is not free (about 10€/pers/day) it was not mentionned on the hotel's description. The breakfast was fantastic but is far away. There were absolutely no information about it in the cabin ! The breakfast is actually served in the sports hotel on the other side of the street (about 5-10 min walk or 2 min by car). A small map would have been appreciated. Good and affordable food in the sport center next door.

We stayed at the small cottages for 1 night. The house was very efficient constructed. Allthough small there were many beds. Seemed a bit old and not top notch cleaned. The duvets and pillows were of an odd colour and did not look too clean. It was nice with access to the swimming pools. Good breakfast.

I didn't stay here but was part of an international competition so I spent everyday at the sport centre and ate at the hostel.  

The sport facility is excellent!   Many activities to choose from and very clean.  The snack bar offered good food as well.

Great facility for sport events

I arrived at the Danhostel by taxi and the taxi driver was unsure of where I needed to go so dropped me by the Danhostel flag. The reception is actually in the main sports building to the left. After walking from one end to the other, I eventually located the reception and was met by some very pleasant and helpful staff. Most people speak English in Denmark so there was no language barrier, however I did still have some difficulty finding my room. 

After locating the correct building and negotiating both door locks I entered into my room and found there was no linen or towels. I walked back to reception and mentioned this and was given a set. The information leaflet in the room states a cost is incurred, but I was not charged.

Back in the room I realised there was no shower gel. Back to reception and I was given directions into town. This is a 2km walk to the nearest shop which is a large supermarket not far from the centre of Vejen. Luckily, the weather was hot and sunny so the walk was quite pleasant following the cycle tracks and trying not to get hit by a bicycle.

Back to the room, bed made and a nice shower I ventured out for something to eat. Back to reception and there is only a small café in the sports hall that serves light snacks and drinks. Another walk into town and I soon found a pizzeria the other side of the railway tunnel which did reasonable pizzas for a very reasonable price. I am used to Norwegian prices and found those in Denmark considerably cheaper.

I wandered around trying to find a bar that sold draught Carlsberg, but none do. They only serve the local beers which were not to my liking. Back to the hostel and the TV had some very odd shows on. One was lots of furry animals asleep - yes, that's it. Another was a channel dedicated to a graph showing sound measurement and another was a very weird version of big brother only most of the shots had nobody in them, just empty corridors. No wonder most of the Danish children go out to the sports centre in the evening as it filled up soon after 4pm. If you are into sports then this is the place to go as they cater for just about everything.

Before turning in for the night I thought I had better find out about breakfast. Back to reception and I was informed breakfast is in the hotel 0.5km away the other side of the road. 

After a pretty good night's sleep, I ventured over to the hotel for breakfast. Another hot and sunny day so the walk was again quite pleasant. Breakfast was free (at least it appeared to be) and there was a good choice of cereal and a cold buffet, but no cooked selection.

The Danhostel is a great place to stay if you are cycling as you can bring your bicycle into your room or leave it in the secure hallway. There are benches outside to sit on in the sun (if your room faces that way) and a door opens out onto these to let in some air as there is no air-con and the rooms can get quite stuffy on warm days. I would not mind staying here again now I know the routine, but would probably get a hire car next time.

Ideal for cyclists

We stayed four nights while attending a family reunion. The facility was great. the beds were comfortable and very clean. Food at the cafeteria was wonderful and such friendly service. Would recommend this facility.

Vejen Danhostel

Vejen Danhostel is located in the enormous Vejen sports center and offers more hotel than hostel like accommodation. Nice, modern rooms, quiet, and a very good breakfast. I also got a discount for the evening buffet, but did not use it. I stayed on a biking tour and was allowed to take my bike into my room, as they did not have a bike shed - quite unusual in bike-friendly Denmark.
