Hotel Strandlyst

This is indeed a nice hotel to stay-over before taking the boat to Norway, the Faroer or Iceland. Basic hotel, but very neat with all required comfort. Very good breakfast and good coffee. Nice and friendly staff. 

I needed somewhere to stay for one night prior to resuming a long-distance cycle ride that had got me to Hirtshals last summer. The Hotel Strandlyst (note spelling) met my requirements very well.

My room was simple but comfortable and clean. The breakfast was of a very good standard. Altogether, it was good experience staying here, although I should have checked the hotel's location a bit better as it is at least 2-3 kms from town and a more central location would have been preferable.

Good Place to Stay For Tourers

Excellent stay before taking boat

Hotel Strandlyst is an old classic beach hotel. Part of the inventory and various fittings dates back to the 1950’ and 60’, which is very charming. I love the old keys for opening the room doors (no key cards here!)

The curtains in my room were almost transparent, so you are sure to wake up early with the sun. Be very careful with the hot water which is close to boiling point!

The hotel does not have its own restaurant, however, they appear to have cooperation with a restaurant down on the beach, about 15 min. walk from the hotel, which seem to cater mainly for German tourists. A better choice is Farmors Køkken [Grandma’s Kitchen] which is located only 50 meters from the hotel and have a great menu of fresh seafood in a very cosy setting.

The breakfast buffet is quite basic, with only some bread and cheese and with coffee, tea and juice.

Old classic beach hotel

What first met us outside the reception were a heavy smell of fried food, which were not a good welcome for sensitive noses. There were no one in the reception when we came, but after ringing the bell the chef of the restaurant came out, which led to the impression of few visiters because of few staff. (Which we later experienced were wrong). When eating dinner we were served by a very nice lady and good service. But after a while there came a lot of hungry guests and we had to wait 30-45minutes for dessert because of 1 waitress.(or maybe the cake had to be made first?).Must say the food was delicious. In the sleeping room there were no television, but we had our own toilet and shower. Some of the rooms had to share bathrooms,so you should specify if you want your own, when ordering a room. When going to sleep at 10 p.m and through the night there were a lot of noice from the hall and from other rooms.we could hear others conversations, locking doors and footsteps loud and clear. Other guests were not showing much of resepect or conciusness about this. Nice walk to the beach. Clean rooms and overall an ok place to stay for one night.

Good service but noisy for sleeping

We stayed here for 1 night before taking the ferry boat to Norway. For this, it is perfectly located. The building and rooms are a bit outdated, but everything worked fine. Breakfast is simple, but good. Car can be parked for free next to the building. 

Prima voor 1 overnachting onderweg

A very small room with no facilities. Had to share a bathroom across the hall. The shower was dirty and had a collection of hair in the bottom. There were loads of dead incest. Had to park on grass which became very muddy after some rain. They did have a nice buffet breakfast.
