This hostel has two names - Backpackers Hostel and Marrakesh Hostel. The manager, Morad, is very unprofessional, argumentative with guests, threatening and verbally aggressive. He admitted that he is constantly stressed. He takes it out on guests, treating guests like they are a nuisance. If you search on other websites you can find other reviews about his behavior. He shouts on the phone every day and shouts at staff. The staff members (Adnane, Kristina and Giorgio) are polite and helpful. 

There is a huge lack of security at this hostel and Morad refuses to do anything about it. The hostel is accessible to anyone from the street because the doors are rarely locked. While I was staying there, a burglar from the street gained access to the hostel through the unlocked door and stole some guests' possessions, including my phone. Morad was not concerned but the other guests and I insisted that we should call the police. Police came to the hostel and we filed police reports. Morad showed no concern about the lack of security and just told us that we should put all of our possessions inside lockers. He refused to acknowledge the security problem - even if we have all of our possessions inside lockers, an attacker (or person with intentions other than theft) can still enter the property. After that incident, there were two more attempted burglaries on other nights by people off the street who gained access through the unlocked door.

Morad brings his German shepherd dog to the hostel each day and evening. I saw this dog displaying unsettling behavior where it would bite onto a guest's clothes and refuse to let go. The dog wanders freely around the common areas of the hostel, follows guests around and blocks the way when guests try to walk past it. The dog urinated on the wall in a corner of the bathroom a few times. Each time it wasn't cleaned up until the following afternoon. 

There is a general lack of cleanliness and I observed that they did not change the sheets between guests a few times. The staff asked me to move to another room for two nights because a group had booked my dorm. When I moved back into my old dorm after the two nights, I discovered that the staff had made my bed but not changed the sheets. They were the same sheets that I had been sleeping on previously - meaning that they also didn't change the sheets for the male guest who slept on my bed for two nights. I knew they were my old sheets because they had a small rip and a stain in exactly the same places. I also knew that they didn't change the sheets because around the end of the bed, the sheets were covered in tiny balls of fabric from socks. And the sheets now smelled of men's cologne. I took the sheets off the bed but the staff told me they didn't have any spare sheets, so I had to put a blanket on the mattress and sleep on top of the blanket until the manager went out and purchased a set of sheets the next day. 

My reservation included free breakfast when I booked but the manager stopped offering breakfast with no notification to guests. When asked about it, he rudely snapped, saying that he changed his rules. 

My reservation included toilet paper, but there was no toilet paper in one or both of the bathrooms about every second day. 

My reservation said that air conditioning is included, but there was no air conditioner in my room. I saw inside all the dorm rooms in the hostel because the staff asked me to change rooms a few times because of group bookings, and only one of the rooms had an air conditioner. It was so hot and stuffy at night inside the small room where I stayed and we couldn't open the window for fear that a burglar or anyone from the street could get inside our room. 

It can be exceptionally noisy in the hostel on weekends and the level of noise is beyond what you typically experience at other hostels. Some nights I was unable to sleep until after 3am because of the noise made by guests drinking and jumping around in my room and in the room upstairs. There are signs inside the dorm rooms which state that alcohol is not allowed inside the dorms, but this is ignored by the groups of men who come to this hostel to party. 

Beware that if you book a female room, you may end up sharing the room with men. If the mixed rooms fill up, the manager just puts men in the female room. 

Also beware that this hostel often has over-bookings, and you might have to sleep on a mattress on the floor or on a folding bed in an overcrowded room. 

Morad doesn't allow guests to stay in the hostel during the day. This is not common at other hostels and this rule was not disclosed on the website where I booked. He needs to include this rule on all listings for his hostel so that guests know what they are booking. 

Do not stay here.

Lack of security; burglaries; unprofessional and threatening manager

I recently came back from a stag trip. 24 of us arrived, only to find there wasn't enough beds for us, and 2 of the beds were soaking from having had the window left open. They promised to change these beds, however this never happened. Eventually they relented and offered us another room, but only after a lot of confusion. 

1 of the rooms had no door on, so left other users of the hostel open to walk into that room, meaning there was no security.

Some of the beds were simply mattresses on the floor not actual beds.

The owners tries to charge us for damage to the room door, that was already there before we got there. It took a lot of negotiation for them to back down on this. 

The rooms themselves were in a poor state with curtain rails hanging off, and curtains hanging down. 

To top it all several of us came back with lots of bites from the beds. 

On a plus side, the staff were friendly and stayed late to welcome us.

Poor hostel

I have a series of complaints to adress about this place:

- For some reason, the booking was cancelled though we reached and stayed at the hostel according to our booking. As a result, I was charged on my credit card the amount that I was supposed to pay in cash on arrival. Fair enough, but as a result we were not able to write a review of our stay on the booking app, and we actually think that it is purposely done by the hostel in order to avoid bad reviews. Note that it was all cancelled by the hostel after we arrived and checked in our room.

- The hostel name on the building and every other material (brochures, etc.) in Prague is 'Marrakesh Hostel', but on booking.com it is called 'Backpaker Hostel', and when you get charged on your credit card it is named 'Homeplace'. This is completely misleading, and again done purposely in order to confuse potential dissatisfied customers (I am one of them)

- There is a dog (German sheppard) that is actually in the hostel during the day. A clear warning should be given! The dog was playful but we did not have the energy to play with it nor to entertain it, and no staff was around to actually prevent the dog of jumping around and bite us. Though it was playful bites, it left a whole in my sweatpants.

- The cleanliness of the place was disastrous to say the least! The bathroom was not cleaned well every day, but the worst part is that our room was never cleaned once, even 2 days after another guest left... The beds were full of bed bugs and it left us with bug bites all over our body. Lockers are sketchy and they should just put mattresses on the floor as their beds are literally dying...

- Last, but probably the worst part about our stay is that my macbook and my external drive were stolen. We made sure that the door was always locked when we were not in our room, and that we would use the locker provided in the room. We could only see one other guest during our stay in this hostel, and he left one day after we arrived, that is on 8 January . So the only people to have had access to the room while we were not in it are this guy and the hostel staff. Needless to say that though the staff seemed to be willing to solve the theft, we feel skeptical of them too, especially after everything else that was bad in this place. Again, the only person able to steal the computer must have been the staff or the guy that left after one day. This is a complete shame.

- There is no Hostel atmosphere whatsoever

- No breakfast though it is advertised to be included

- I am pretty sure I forget things as it was so bad 

Though they seem to have good reviews, experiences such as this one should never happen, especially when it also appears that we have not been the only ones complaining about bed bugs, dog, thefts, etc...

Worst of the worst

Wow. Where do I start... We were a group that was going to spend most of the time out and about in Prague and just needed somewhere to put our head down for the night.. So our standards weren't particularly high.. But even then it was not acceptable. The smell on the way in was awful, which wasn't a good start. We were a group of 9 that took up a whole room, but our room didn't even have a door!! the room was so small with a slanted roof you couldn't even stand up. Then there was the cleanliness... Or lack off.. Everything looked dirty, and didn't even have proper pillows or blankets on the bed, and there was dust everywhere. I have stayed in hostels around the world in many different countries.. But never seen anywhere as bad as this. As well as this, a lady that I assume worked at the hostel walked through the room shouting at 8.30am waking everybody up and hammering and drilling from another room started at 9.all round it was a ridiculous stay. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, left after one. Do not stay here.

Worst hostel ever.

i lake this hostel you fell lake home we  come to bus station florence and just few minute to get to the hiostel and you have free brekfast and the receptionist jakub was halpful on friday the hostel offer us soem free alcohol drink and i recommend this hostel for other travellers wish want to have nice stay in prague and you have old town minute from the hostel

Hostel Marrakech is Nice cosy hostel and i love the atmosphère and thé staff are very friendly and halpfule you have free breakfast and you have free wifi i recommande this hostel and you can enjoj tour stay

Cosy hoste and un city centre offert Prague

I    arrive in in hostel marrakech in midnight and the reception was very Nice and freindly and halpfule thé hostel just 5 minute to old town and down to thé hostel are Czech restaurant toucan try Czech food i recommande this hostel

Good hostel

Hostel just few minute from old town squar and the receptionist very nice and halpful I travel from Berlin to prague with bus and come early before 14h00 I was very tired from traveling and receptionist Lina she give bed before chek in time I was very happy from this help I recommend this hostel very clean safe

Cozy hostel clean good staff

I come to hostel Marrakesh with my 2 friends and we enjoyed  our time so much. The staff was very nice and friendly. Hostel is very clean and directly in the city center. We enjoyed fun in the centre and Czech food and drinks.

Nice hostel cheap safe

I love ❤️ this. Hostel is very cheap and clean and when we arrived the staff wore very nice and friendly to us if you want go to old town square is just few minuets and you to close to bars and night life and breakfast is Free and I recommend this hostel
