Hotel Scharloo

We stayed here last year and enjoyed it, so it was a no-brainer to book here again.Unfortunately, we were its last guests. Employees informed us that the owner decided to open the hotel only to long-term vacationers, such as a month or longer, and the hotel was effectively closed when we arrived. We were grateful that the owner honored our reservation, which had been made months in advance and pre-paid. If you are looking for a place to stay long-term, the mansion offers a good location that is a short walk to all the hot spots in Willemstad. If they go back to booking for short term vacationers, don't hesitate to book here. Nelson, the night watchman, waited up for us to arrive at 1 a.m. after our flight was delayed four hours. We learned the breakfasts were no longer offered, and housekeeping wouldn't come on certain days. We were disappointed about the breakfasts especially since they were so good, but we had an enormous room in the mansion with a kitchenette so we could store groceries. We also had a private balcony that was large with room for a table and chairs and two chaise longues. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioner was extremely quiet. The only downside: a club of sorts nearby that blasted music on a Sunday night (it was Easter night), and again later in the week. So, if Hotel Scharloo opens again for short terms vacationers, we will be there without a doubt. It is unfortunate what has happened. The staff is fantastic and the location can't be beat.
