Top 3 of the worst hotels we have stayed in in our 23day tour over Cuba. No hot water. Refrigerator not working, so you can't cool your drinks. Breakfast was bad and the staff didn't care to help us. But when Cubans walked in they where served drinks, that we where not offered, etc. We where offered a welcome drink, but they put the alcohol on top and didn't mix it. When asked to stir the drink, I got some arrogant look and he just put the spoon in the glass, no stirring movement. Beds are of poor quality, you can feel the springs. But that's Cuba and that I don't mind. Stuff like the behaviour of the staff is something that's free and should be good. You won't find that here.

Uninterested, rude and uncaring staff.

Oh dear - a misnamed hotel - more like the ‘Not So Grand Hotel’.
Firstly, with the help of our lovely taxi driver, we had to drag our cases down the street to the door as there is no vehicular access. Despite staff in the lobby doing nothing, no help was offered - and we were met with complete indifference. No-one at Reception. Eventually the Receptionist turned up - a Soviet style cold ‘welcome’ and clearly customer service unheard of.

Lift up to Floor 3. The room was clean and high ceilinged but still contrived to appear dark and dingy. There is a safe, small fridge and AC, WiFi access given for 10 hours in a 2 night stay - with a decent signal. There were Ill-fitting Shutters and Louvres at the window but no glass, so noise and carousing at night meant that sleep was almost impossible.

Breakfast is on Floor 5 in a vast Restaurant but with only 6 guests to serve. The only thing about the hotel that was good was the pleasant waitress here - and because of her the hotel gains one star rather than zero. Breakfast a poor affair- tiny bit of pineapple, a little papaya (which tasted of onion!), spam and cheese although we did have an omelette which was okay. 

We couldn’t wait to leave.

A mis-named Hotel

Gran Hotel is a beautiful place, the perfect place for been in family and with friends, with beautiful views and and exelente stuff and service that will make your time I the hotel, exceptional and beautiful.

Great place

Good location and some very nice reception staff.  Generally had hot water for showers and decent breakfast.  Pool area was not clean with bird poop on the lounge chairs.  The two least desirable hotels we had in Cuba were both Melia.  don't be misled by the Melia name as it would be two stars at best in most other countries.

Ok for cuba

The room I was given on checking in was dark, damp and smelt of sewage so I returned immediately to the desk.  The initial response was that there were no other rooms, but a 10 CUC note suddenly made available a "suite".  Hardly a suite, but a bright, pleasant room, with no odour, and a view across the city instead of a small window with a view of an internal ventilation shaft. All fine, though only a trickle of water could be coaxed from the shower.
Dinner on the 5th floor restaurant with panoramic views was buffet-style, but the selection of dishes and accompaniments was interesting and of good quality (except the desserts).
The rooftop bar was also pleasant for a late-evening coffee and rum.

OK after a bad start

The hotel has a great location in the center of Camagüey and it is easy to visit some of the most iconic places in the city. I loved the hotel´s decor and the food was delicious. The service is excellent, and the staff is very kind and helpful.

Beautiful hotel

I would like to recognize the front desk Iris M Fuentes for her exceptional attention with our family as well as with other guests during our stay. She was always very attentive and always with a smile willing to help in every way. We need more staff like her. Makes you really want to come back and visit again. Would like to thank her for everything, and would like for her to be recognized.

Recognition

This hotel is in the centre of Camaguey ,in an old building.Most rooms are of reasonable size and are clean.A few  rooms are smaller and not really up to standard..The meals were buffet style and very good.At dinner,a group of classical musicians played background music.- a nice touch.

Nice traditional hotel

Honestly we were warm welcomed by a very friendly woman and a nice welcome drink (not sure if rum was in it). As we were backpacking, we were looking forward to our stay at the first hotel after staying at some great casa particulares.
We booked a junior suite, once arriving in our room, we discovered a room with half hanging curtains all over, hair still in the shower of previous visitors, the room was big, however nothing cozy at all, and we regretted that we did not booked another casa particular. The price we paid, was way over compared with the rooms and the service we've got during the rest of our trip. 
Must say, ideal located like most of the hotels / hostels / casa particulars in Camaguey.

Way overpriced for what you get!

My junior suite was colonial in style and decor.. clean and comfortable mix of Old World charm and modern convenience. Mattress was excellent by Cuban standards and the staff was friendly as well. A small but nicely appointed pool is attached to the property. It is nice to be in the historic center of town walkable to many sights and restaurants
